Nancy Benoit was born on May 21, 1964. Before entering the world of wrestling, she was married to Jim Daus. After divorcing him, she married wrestling star Kevin Sullivan. She divorced Kevin Sullivan in 1997 and married Chris Benoit in 2000. Chris and Nancy had a son named Daniel. On June 25, 2007, the bodies of Nancy, Chris, and Daniel were found by police in their Atlanta home.
Starting in the Business:
In the early '80s, Nancy got her start in the business by appearing in wrestling photo shoots and by selling wrestling programs for the local wrestling organization in Florida. In 1984, she made her wrestling debut in Florida Championship Wrestling as Fallen Angel. She was a part of Kevin Sullivan's Army of Darkness. In 1985, she married Kevin Sullivan.
In 1989, she appeared in the crowd as Robin Greene. Robin was portrayed as a plain girl that also happened to be the biggest fan of Rick Steiner. The two started dating. She was given an image makeover by the Steiner's manager Missy Hyatt. With this makeover, she was transformed into Woman and quickly turned on the Steiner Brothers. She managed the team of Doom (Ron Simmons and Butch Reed) and hired a bodyguard named Nitron to ensure the demise of the Steiner Brothers.
The Four Horsemen Part 1:
Her team of Doom failed to take out the Steiner Brothers and she fired them after they lost their masks in a match. She then set her sights on WCW Champion Ric Flair and spent several months in 1990 as his valet. At the time, Ric was also a member of the legendary Four Horsemen. A few months later, she left WCW and rejoined Kevin Sullivan on the independent wrestling circuit.
Woman appeared in ECW in 1993 where she managed Kevin Sullivan and the Tazmaniac (current ECW announcer Taz) to the tag team championship. When Kevin left for WCW, Woman went on to manage the Sandman. She led him to both the ECW World and Tag Team Championships. With Sandman, she had the job of putting a lit cigarette or beer in his mouth when he was in trouble. Like Popeye eating spinach, this gave him tremendous energy.
Return to WCW:
When she returned to WCW, her husband was a booker in the company. Woman quickly aligned herself with Randy Savage and Hulk Hogan. She turned on Randy and realigned herself with Ric Flair and the Four Horsemen. While she was aligned with the Horsemen, the group was feuding with Kevin Sullivan's Dungeon of Doom.
Real Life and Wrestling Collide:
While with the Horsemen, Woman began to focus her attention on Chris Benoit. The on-screen romance booked by her husband actually came to pass. Chris Benoit feuded with Kevin Sullivan and in both real-life and on the show, she supported Chris Benoit. In 1997, she divorced Kevin Sullivan and left the business. One of the only times fans saw her after this was in 2004, when she joined Chris in the ring after he won the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania XX.
