Nicholas Nemeth, better known to wrestling fans as Dolph Ziggler, was born on July 27, 1980, in Cleveland, Ohio. He attended Kent State University and as a member of their wrestling team, he was the Mid-American Athletic Conference Champion of the 165 pound weight class in 2000, 2002, and 2003. His younger brother, Ryan, has followed him into the business and currently competes under the name of Briley Pierce in WWE's NXT developmental territory.
In 2005, Chavo Guerrero denounced his Latino heritage and family tradition and was rechristened as Kerwin White. Kerwin was into golfing and Nick Nemeth served as both his enforcer and caddy. A few months after these characters debuted, Eddie Guerrero passed away. In light of this tragedy, Chavo went back to his Guerrero roots and Nick was in need of a new gimmick.
The Spirit Squad:
Nick returned to television the following year as Nicky, one-fifth of the Spirit Squad, a group of male cheerleaders. When Kenny and Mikey won the World Tag Team Championship from Big Show and Kane, all five men were recognized as the champions and could use any two men in their defense of the title. Their biggest rivalry was against D-Generation X. The groups role in this feud was to keep them away from Vince and Shane McMahon. The group failed miserably in that feud and were eventually put in a crate marked OVW (WWE's develpmental territory at the time) by D-Generation X.
Working With Another Guerrero:
In late 2008, Dolph Ziggler made his debut on WWE television. After a brief on-air relationship with Maria, Dolph would find his way into the heart of Vickie Guerrero. During their years together, Vickie has had varying degrees of power within the company and was not afraid to show favoritism to her boyfriend. On February 11, 2011, she awarded him the World Heavyweight Championship because her ex-husband, Edge, used the Spear, a move she had banned, in a match against Dolph the following week. Dolph's time at the top didn't last long as he lost the belt back to Edge later that night.
Money in the Bank:
In 2012, Dolph Ziggler won the Money in the Bank Ladder Match for a shot at the World Heavyweight Championship whenever he wants it. The night after WrestleMania XXIX, Dolph cashed in the title shot after Alberto Del Rio suffered an ankle injury during a 2-on-1 Handicap Match against Jack Swagger and Zeb Coulter. Dolph took advantage of the injury and defeated Alberto Del Rio to become a two-time World Heavyweight Champion.
