6/16/06 Friday Night SmackDown! Recap

By Eric Cohen, About.com

- JBL comes out in his limo to start his new job as a SmackDown! announcer.

Non-title Match: World Champion Rey Mysterio vs Cruiserweight Champion Gregory Helms – Rey’s shoulder is all taped up due to the injuries he suffered against Sabu at One Night Stand. It is kind of amusing how much bigger the cruiserweight champion is than the heavyweight champion. Helms had the advantage for most of the match but lost when Rey hot the 619 and followed it with the jumping dive to the back of the head. Winner: Rey Mysterio

Non-title Match: U.S. Champ Lashley vs King Booker – Before Lashley entered the ring, he was attacked by Finlay and William Regal. They injured Lashley’s knee by using the shillelagh. He is saved by Matt Hardy & Gunner Scott. Winner: Match did not happen

- Lashely is in the trainer’s office and tells him that he will be fighting King Booker tonight.

Ken Kennedy vs Nick Berk - Kennedy easily beats his jobber opponent and put him away with the Green Bay Meat Packer. Winner: Ken Kennedy

- The Mexicools are shown in the back before their match with The Great Kahli. Super Crazy wants to make sure that Psicosis will be in his corner this week.

- A video for the returning Batista is shown.

- A vignette for the returning Sylvan is shown. His new gimmick is as an ambassador for Quebec.

Handicap Match: The Great Kahli w/Daivari vs The Mexicools (Super Crazy and Psicosis) - The Great Kahli toys around with both men. Psicosis abandons his partner during the match. Kahli easily beats Super Crazy. After the match, Daivari gets on the mic and says that everyone is afraid of him including The Undertaker. Winner: The Great Kahli

- The Miz interviews Ashley about winning the bikini contest last week and then allows her to announce the next match to the crowd.

Matt Hardy & Gunner Scott vs Finlay & William Regal – This is a pretty good tag team match that goes through a commercial break. The match ended when Finlay pinned Gunner after hitting him in the head with his shillelagh. After the match, Finlay gets his leprechaun out from under the ring to beat up his opponents. When Finlay was happy with the work of his leprechaun, he threw him back under the ring. Winners: Finlay & William Regal

- Teddy Long enters King Booker’s locker room and informs him that he will be facing Lashley later tonight.

- A second video is shown to remind us that Batista returns in three weeks.

- Chavo Guerrero is interviewed in the ring by Michael Cole. Mark Henry interrupts the interview and says that it is a shame that Chavo has retired because Mark likes to end people’s careers. Mark Henry then beats up Chavo and gives him the world’s strongest slam followed by driving Chavo’s back into the steel ring post.

- Michelle McCool confronts Ashley in the back. The two ladies trade some insults.

Vito vs Scott Wright – On his way to the ring, footage of Vito working out in a gym while wearing a dress is shown. Vito is wearing his dress in the ring and dismantles his jobber opponent. He wins with a submission move that involves Scott’s head going under his dress. Winner: Vito

King Booker w/Queen Sharmell vs Lashley – Lashley’s leg is heavily taped up due to the attack earlier in the show. Booker dominates the majority of the match due to Lashley’s injury. When he attempted the scissor kick, Lashley caught him in mid-air and delivered the power slam to get the win. Winner: Lashley
