5/5/06 Friday Night SmackDown! Recap

By , About.com Guide

- The show starts off with Rey Mysterio delivering a promo in the ring. JBL interrupts Rey and calls him an illegal alien. He starts saying how he was disgusted that millions of “Rey’s people” tried to shut down America earlier this week. JBL then gets on Rey’s case about how the fans chant for Eddie Guerrero and couldn’t care less about him. The segment ends with JBL announcing that Rey will be fighting Mark Henry tonight.

Booker T w/Sharmell vs Gunner Scott – Three weeks ago, Gunner scored an upset victory over Booker T in his SmackDown! debut. The announcers state that Booker T has advanced to the finals of The King of the Ring due to Kurt Angle’s injury. Thanks to the interference of Sharmell, Booker T was able to hit the scissors kick to get the win. Winner: Booker T

Tag Team Titles: Champs MNM vs Paul London & Brian Kendrick – For the last 4 weeks, London & Kendrick have beaten MNM in a variety of matches. MNM attacked their opponents from behind and knocked them out with the tag team titles. They then gave each man the snapshot. Winners: Match never happened

- The first step of Tatanka’s rebirth is shown. He goes through a purification ceremony that involves a sweat lodge. Brandon & Dylan went through the same thing on an episode of Beverly Hills 90210.

- Teddy Long enters the locker room of Daivari & The Great Kahli. He announces that The Undertaker has challenged him to a match at Judgement Day.

King of the Ring Quarterfinal Match 4: Finlay vs Chris Benoit – The winner of this match will face Lashley in the semi-finals and the winner of that match will face Booker T in the finals. Finlay gains an advantage when Benoit’s shoulder hits the ring post. When Benoit regains the momentum, Finlay goes crazy and throws several chairs into the ring as the show goes to break. Finlay and Benoit both try to use the shillelagh but the ref stops them. When the ref puts the weapon away, Finlay uses a steel chair on Benoit to get the win. Winner: Finlay

The Gymini w/Simon Dean vs Funaki & Scotty 2 Hotty – The Gymini easily win this match when they hit the crash diet on Scotty. Winners: The Gymini

- Lashley storms into Booker T’s locker room and lets him know that he will beat him in the King of the Ring finals.

Winner gets a title shot: Kid Kash vs Nunzio w/Vito vs Super Crazy – The first man to score a pin fall or submission will get a match against Gregory Helms at Judgement Day. The Great Kahli interrupts the match and destroys all 4 men. Winner: No Contest

Rey Mysterio vs Mark Henry – The World Championship is not on the line in this match. JBL is at ringside to do commentary. When JBL tries to interfere in the match, Mysterio knocks him over the announce table. In this battle between speed vs power, The World’s Stongest Man scores a clean pin over the champ. After Rey hit the 619, he tried to do the west coast pop but Mark caught him in midair and gave him the power slam to get the win. After the match, Mark tries to destroy the champ but JBL pleads with him not to. JBL promises to give Mark Henry the first title shot after he beats Rey at Judgement Day. He then tells Rey that next week he will have to face The Great Kahli. Winner: Mark Henry
