The Elimination Chamber

By Eric Cohen, About.com

The Structure
The structure is a giant circle that covers the ringside area. There are four plexiglass chambers for the wrestlers to wait in and the area outside the ring between the chambers is made of steel grating. The domed structure is made of solid steel beams with thick ropes of chain making the structure impossible to escape. The Elimination Chamber is 36 foot in diameter, consists of over 2 miles of chain, is 16 feet high, and weighs over 10 tons. The WWE claims to have spent over $500,000 to construct it.

Rules of the Match
The match involves 6 people. The match starts with 2 men in the ring and the other 4 men confined to their own plexiglass chamber. At a specified interval (either 3 or 5 minutes) a pod will open at random (unless a wrestler has earned the right to enter the ring last). A competitor is eliminated by either pinfall or submission and that can happen at any point in the match. The last wrestler remaining is the winner of the match.

EC # 1: Survivor Series 2002 (5 minute intervals)
Competitors:
Triple H defends the World Heavyweight Chmpionship against Shawn Michaels, Rob Van Dam, Booker T, Chris Jericho, and Kane.
Background:
Triple H was feuding with both Shawn Michaels and Kane at the time. The prior month Jericho beat Booker T for the tag team title.
The Match:
Triple H and RVD start off the match. They are followed by Chris Jericho and then Booker T. RVD jumps off the top of a pod and gives the 5 star splash to Triple H, but screws the move up due to the dimensions of the chamber and legitimately injures Triple H’s throat. After that move, Booker T hit RVD with a dropkick off the top rope and pins him. Kane enters next and in an impressive spot throws Jericho through an empty chamber. A few minutes later, Jericho pins Booker T with the lion sault. Shawn Michaels is the last man to enter. Jericho then eliminates Kane with the lionsault after he had received the superkick and pedigree from Michaels & Triple H respectively. Shawn then eliminates Jericho with the superkick. A few minutes later, Shawn hits the Sweet Chin Music on Triple H to become the new World Heavyweight Champion.
Winner & New Champion: Shawn Michaels

EC # 2: SummerSlam 2003 (3 minute intervals)
Competitors:
Triple H defends the World Heavyweight Title against Shawn Michaels, Goldberg, Randy Orton, Kevin Nash, and Chris Jericho
Background:
Goldberg was new to the WWE and was after Triple H’s title. Triple H & Orton were members of Evolution. Fellow Evolution member Ric Flair is at ringside for the match. Shawn & Triple H were still feuding. Chris Jericho had recently beaten Kevin Nash in a hair vs hair match.
The Match:
Shawn & Jericho start the match off. Randy Orton and then Kevin Nash are the next two men to enter. Nash is eliminated by Jericho after he was hit by a Michael’s super kick. Triple H enters next. Goldberg is the last man to enter. He spears Orton to get the elimination. He then spears Jericho through a chamber. Goldberg next eliminates Shawn after giving him the jackhammer. Jericho is next to be eliminated after getting hit with the jackhammer. Triple H had been hiding in a chamber since Goldberg entered and was forced out after Goldberg kicked his way through the chamber. Ric Flair slipped the sledgehammer into the chamber, and when Goldberg went to spear Triple H, he ran into the sledgehammer. Triple H makes the easy pin to win the match. After the match, Triple H, Randy Orton and Ric Flair handcuff Goldberg to the cage and hit him with the sledgehammer.
Winner and Still Champion: Triple H
