The Hardcore Diaries

(c) 2007 Simon & Schuster, Inc.

The Bottom Line

Just like Winston Churchill, Mick Foley has accomplished so much that he needs three autobiographies. In all fairness, Churchill never fell off the top of the Hell in a Cell. The success of Mick Foley's first autobiography, Have a Nice Day, is directly responsible for the wrestling book market. His first two autobiographies were two of the best wrestling books ever written and this one also can join them in that illustrious stratosphere. I feel that this one is better than Foley is Good but not quite as good as Have a Nice Day.
Pros
  • Mick is the best wrestler author and his storytelling skills are incredible.
  • The book takes you on an emotional journey that will have you both laughing and crying.
  • Mick is not afraid to criticize his bosses.
Cons
  • The diary style leads to occasions of Mick rambling.

Description

  • This is Mick Foley's third autobiography.
  • The book is 384 pages.
  • The book is made up of diary entries over a three month period.

Guide Review - Review of The Hardcore Diaries by Mick Foley

For Mick's third autobiography, he did something very different. He takes fans behind the scenes and explains in detail all the events leading up to his match at ECW One Night Stand 2006. I don't mean that he just describes the ring action. He goes behind the scenes and describes in great detail the creative process that goes into making an angle. He gives a great view of how WWE operates and all the political minefields that a wrestler must go through to get their ideas televised.

One of the problems in many WWE books is that they can come off as a literary attempt to join the Vince McMahon Kiss My A** Club. Even though Mick describes his plans to join the physical club, this book in no way is a cheerleading book for Vince. Mick describes his frustrations with the WWE creative team and takes several direct shots at Vince and many veiled shots at Triple H.

While the focus of the book is about the events leading to his One Night Stand match, Mick also discusses other events that took place since his last autobiography was released several years ago. The most fascinating of these is how he was released from WWE and almost signed with TNA.
