Guide Review - Gordon Solie...Something Left Behind
Gordon Solie is almost universally acknowledged as the greatest play by play announcer in the history of professional wrestling. Prior to his death in 2000, he was in the process of writing his autobiography. He gave his writings and photos to his daughter and son-in-law with the daunting task of doing what they felt was the right thing to do. They did an incredible job putting this labor of love together.
The writings of Gordon Solie give a view of the man that would not have been possible in a traditional biography. While I am no great judge of poetry, I found myself enjoying his poems as they made me think about things that are greater and more relevant to life than the outcome of a wrestling match.
Overall Recommendation: This is a tough book to give a normal recommendation to. If you enjoy prior eras of wrestling then I give it a thumbs up. Compared to other wrestling picture and short story books, this is one of the best available. If you are looking for a wrestling book that will give you some insider info to the business or a great narrative of the industry or Gordon Solie's life I won't recommend it.
