The Bottom Line

In the ring, Eddie Guerrero was one of the few performers that could make you laugh, angry, and then gets you to root for him in the same match. This book carries on that tradition and can be viewed as his final great match.

Guide Review - Cheating Death, Stealing Life - The Eddie Guerrero Story

The book starts off with Eddie talking about his famous family and his father's lucha libre legacy. The book then discusses his lucha libre career and his frequent trips to Japan. After a discussion of the formation of the AAA wrestling federation, he details his relationship with the late Art Barr. He tells a story of a cruel rib performed on Art by The Nasty Boys that almost put his biggest match in jeopardy and how he got his revenge on them. The match that the Nasty Boys almost ruined turned out to be Art's final match and the match that got Eddie noticed in America.

Eddie then went to ECW and discusses the locker room and fans in the world's most famous bingo hall. He left ECW for WCW and lost his love for the business there. He discusses being thought of as a vanilla midget and his hatred of Kevin Nash. During his WCW tenure, he was involved in a near fatal car crash. Upon his return to the ring, he discusses the turmoil going on in WCW and how he left the company with champion Chris Benoit, Dean Malenko, and Perry Saturn.

Upon entering the WWE, he suffered an injury in his first match and screwed up the ending to his match which wrecked havoc on the planned angle. While things got better for him in the WWE, his life outside the ring fell apart. The rest of the book discusses his journey from rock bottom to becoming the WWE Champion.
