Guide Review - Review of Are You Ready? The Unauthorized History of DX
The target market for this book appears to be younger readers. Most of the chapters are very short and you don't need a long attention span or high comprehension level to read this book. That does not mean that an older person of intellect won't enjoy this book. If you have a sense of humor and don't take your wrestling too seriously then you should enjoy this book.
One of the problems that newer fans will encounter with this book is that Shawn and Triple H discuss the reasons certain things happened and how they felt about them, the author of the book assumes that the reader of the book already knows what they are discussing.
Another problem with the book is that there are many pages in the book for no reason. I have counted over a dozen pages with nothing more than a DX logo on them. In another way to increase the size of the book, there are many DX Fact pages in the book that feature only a sentence or two. However, unlike the logo pages these pages aren't a total waste and you will learn something from them. In addition, the book is filled with many full-page black and white photos.
The story of D-Generation X ends with Triple H getting injured to end their 2007 reunion. The 2009 reunion took place after the book was written. After the main portion of the book, there is a trivia quiz and a timeline for the group.
Overall Recommendation: This is a fun read. While it is not a book I would say has to be a part of the wrestling library of older fans, it is not a book that you should go out of your way to avoid either. Of the four autobiographies on the market featuring the members of DX, I rank this one below Shawn's autobiography and higher than both Triple H's workout book/autobiography and Chyna's autobiography.
As far as children go, if they enjoy DX, they will enjoy this book. However, if you are a parent, you should know there are a lot of fart, poo, and pee jokes in the book. If you've ever watched DX with your children (especially their 2007 run) then you know what to expect from this book.
