Bang Your Head by Dewey Robertson

(c) ECW Press

The Bottom Line

This book is the autobiography of Dewey Robertson. As such, most of the focus is on his life and the problems that his marijuana addiction has caused him. If you are looking for a book to show your children the real dangers of this drug that most people are not aware of then I would recommend it. As far as a wrestling book goes, I give it a thumb in the middle. While not a bad book, there are just many better wrestling books currently available on the market.

Guide Review - Book Review of Bang Your Head by Dewey "The Missing Link" Robertson

This book tells the life story of Dewey Robertson. The majority of his career he did not have any ring gimmick. Dewey is most famous for the few years of his career that he spent as The Missing Link. At the time he became The Missing Link, wrestling exploded in popularity and his stints in World Class Championship Wrestling, the WWF, and the UWF were seen by nationwide audiences.

The overriding theme of his book is about the dangers of drinking and marijuana. For the first half of his life he avoided all types of drugs but when he wrestled in the U.S. he started with steroids, alcohol, and marijuana. His addictions took a toll on his career, family, and wallet. Due to his gimmick as The Missing Link, it enabled his habit because he lived the gimmick 24 hours a day and he did not have to interact with others.

He goes out of his way to not tell stories about other wrestlers which I can respect. I was disappointed that he all but blew off the problems that plagued the locker room in WCCW. For a book that is supposed to talk about the dangers of drugs, this is a horribly missed opportunity to discuss how drugs lead to death. For those unfamiliar with the story of WCCW, at one time this promotion was the hottest company in the world but a locker room full of drug addicts led not only to the death of the company but the death of too many of the wrestlers in that company.
