In an era when televised WWE programs featured stars against scrubs, Saturday Night's Main Event was revolutionary in that it was the first time that WWE fans got to see televised matches featuring the greatest stars of the era battle one another. This three-disc DVD set takes a look back at the highlights of the show and includes over 30 matches.

The Review and Recommendation

This 3-disc DVD serves as a time capsule for newer fans to experience what the WWE was all about in the 1980's. Saturday Night's Main Event featured not only the top talent in the WWE facing off against one another, it also provided major storyline developments, and some of the most bizarre sketches that summed up the '80s perfectly.

In addition to the 30+ matches on the DVD, fans get to see such historic moments as both the formation and the explosion of the Mega Powers as well as the most watched match in wrestling history. While the bulk of this DVD features footage from the original run on NBC, matches from the FOX era and rebirth are also included. For those wondering, Jesse Ventura's commentary is on this DVD set.

Overall Recommendation: This is one of my favorite WWE DVD sets. My biggest problem with it is that it is only 9-hours long. I really hope that the WWE makes a second volume of this, or even better, releases an Anthology set featuring every episode of the show. I give this DVD my highest recommendation and think that fans of all ages will enjoy this set.
