This DVD is one-half of the second set of Ring of Honor DVDs released by KOCH Vision in 2008. The other DVD to come out on the same day as this one is ROH Greatest Rivalries. Each of the four discs released by the company so far has had a theme. The focus on this DVD is international wrestling.
Review & Recommendation
The vast majority of the matches on this DVD feature at least one foreign wrestler. That leads to a plethora of wrestling styles being showcased on this DVD. Unlike WWE foreign wrestlers that wrestle in a WWE style, the foreign wrestlers on this DVD continue to wrestle in their native style.
Even within a nationality, there are several different styles featured. As an example, the styles used by the Japanese wrestlers run the gamut from lightning quick and "flippy" to a methodical "chop-style" that rewards brutality.
While the last two paragraphs take care of the "in the world" portion of the title that leaves us see if this DVD features the best. According to the Wrestling Observer, the Samoa Joe vs. Kenta Kobashi match was the match of the year in 2005.
Recommendation: Of the four ROH DVDs I've reviewed this year, this has been my favorite. If you are looking for a true alternative to the WWE or are curious about foreign wrestling styles, this is the DVD for you.
