RAW - The Best of 2010 DVD Cover

© 2011 World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. All Rights Reserved.
This is the second year in a row that WWE has produced a Best of RAW DVD set. Last year I had the following to say about that set: "I love the idea of this DVD set. For years I have dreamed of such a DVD set that would take a look back at a particular year. Unfortunately, the execution of this set left a lot to be desired. Those flaws took away a lot from this set." I feel the same exact way again this year.

The Review

This marks the first non-PPV DVD set that the WWE is also releasing on Blu-ray to retailers nationwide. As is to be expected, there are more items on the 2-disc Blu-ray set than there are on the cheaper three-disc DVD set. However, I don't think that it is right that the viewers of Blu-ray get more at the expense of the DVD viewer. The back of the DVD set says "Approx. running time: 9 hours". This DVD set is actually closer to 7.5 hours long. With all this extra time available, there are many things missing from this set that I would have loved to have seen on this one. Amazingly, those moments I wondered about while watching this DVD set weren't on the Blu-ray set either.

What is missing? None of the in-ring segments featuring Vince McMahon and Bret Hart are included as chapters on this DVD. None of the moments that led to the break-up of Legacy have been included as DVD chapters either. Two huge moments for nostalgic wrestling fans have also been ignored on this set as Bret's US Championship victory and Jerry Lawler's near-victory in a TLC match against The Miz are both MIA from this set.

Other Flaws of the DVD Set: As with last year's DVD set, several matches are cut for commercial breaks and the highlight chapters that begin each month sometimes feature either the endings of post-match celebrations of matches that you are about to watch. In order to keep some suspense for the matches, I recommend skipping the chapter highlights before watching the matches and then watching the highlights after you have watched everything else for the month on the DVD."

Overall Recommendation: I'm disappointed because this should have been so much better. Between the short-length of the DVD set, important moments missing from the set, and the editing issues which ruin the endings of some of the matches, I have to give this DVD set a thumb's in the middle but leaning slightly downward. If you can watch this via rental, that is what I would suggest you do. Please note that this review was for the DVD. While I haven't seen the Blu-ray version of this set, I'm sure I'd feel the same way because the extras on it don't fix the issues related to what is missing and the poor editing job.
