WWE Legends of Wrestling DVD Review

WWE Legends of Wrestling DVD

© 2009 World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. All Rights Reserved.
Legends of Wrestling is a new style of DVD for the WWE. Usually the selling point of a DVD for the company is the wrestling action. However, the highlights of these discs are the roundtable discussions about the featured personalities on the DVDs. These discussions can best be described as the WWE meets The View.

Review and Recommendation

The Formats of the DVDs
Each of the three DVDs contain a round table discussion that lasts approximately an hour. The remaining two hours of each disc features matches of the people that were featured in the discussion.

The discussions are highly informative and I learned a lot about the people discussed in these discs. In particular, I was fascinated by the Junkyard Dog discussion. It's just a shame that the WWE doesn't own the footage to the Mid-South/UWF territory. However, just like an episode of The View, at points the discussions feature people talking over each other and people telling stories at the expense of the flow of the conversation.

As far as the matches go, for the most part, they do not feature the top tier matches of any of the competitors. However, I have to give WWE Home Video a thumb's up for using some footage from the Spectrum. A major problem with the DVD is that there is no way to watch the matches all in a row without going back to the menu.

Overall Recommendation: Fans of wrestling history will love to hear these discussions. However, I don't think most people will watch these discs multiple times. This set may be worth renting instead of buying. Please note that Best Buy is the only place where you can buy these three discs individually. In addition, they are also selling three other DVDs in the same format featuring bigger stars than are featured on the three discs available everywhere else.
