Over the past few decades, high flying wrestling has become a popular part of the sport. This DVD set features 27 matches showcasing many of the top high flyers from WWE, ECW, and WCW.

Review and Recommendation

Format of the DVD: Josh Mathews is the host of this 3-disc DVD set. The basic format of the DVD is that a montage featuring the high flying moves of a wrestler is shown followed by a match featuring that wrestler. These montages are shown before every match except for those that are considered DVD Extras and aren't a part of the main program (you have to hit the special features to access these matches).

Special Features: In addition to a few extra matches, a few WWE Superstars have taped a “sky view” camera to themselves and perform a move in the ring on a practice pad. This allows you to see the moves from the wrestler's perspective.

Match Selection: I have to give the WWE credit for using their vast library for this DVD set and not being afraid to portray wrestlers that currently work for TNA in a good light.

Overall Recommendation: If you are a fan of high flying wrestling, you will enjoy this DVD. However, if you have a big DVD library, you might want to pass on this set as the best and most memorable matches on this DVD set are available elsewhere. While I recommend purchasing this DVD, it is not a must-have for your collection.

Matches on This DVD Set

For matches that are available on other compilation DVDs, I will note the DVD it is also available on in parenthesis and italics. In addition, with the exception of the matches noted as being DVD extras and the tag team bouts, the first wrestler listed in any match is the wrestler whose montage was shown prior to the bout.

Disc One

  • Halloween Havoc '92: Ricky Steamboat vs. Brian Pillman - Jesse Ventura's commentary has been deleted from the audio track.
  • Superstars 6/11/09: Evan Bourne vs. Zack Ryder - This match took place while both men were a part of the ECW roster.
  • MSG 2/20/84: Jimmy Snuka vs. Samoan #3 - Samoan #3 is also known as Samu, who went on to become a member of the Samoan Swat Team and the Headshrinkers.
  • Bash at the Beach '97: Juventud Guerrera, Hector Garza, Lizmark Jr. vs. La Parka, Psychosis, Villano IV - Prior to this DVD set, there has never been a match from this event released on WWE DVD. This set features two matches from this show.
  • RAW 5/2/05: Shelton Benjamin vs. Shawn Michaels (The Best of RAW 15th Anniversary) - This bout was a quarterfinal match of the Gold Rush Tournament where the winner would earn a World Championship Match against Batista during the 5/23 edition of Monday Night RAW. The tournament was won by Edge.
  • World War 3 '96: Ultimo Dragon vs. Rey Mysterio Jr. - Ultimo Dragon's J-Crown Championship was on the line during this bout. Due to the bizarre set-up of the arena for this show, the commentators were facing away from the action during this bout.
  • ECW Hardcore TV 7/21/95: Eddie Guerrero vs. Dean Malenko - This bout is for Eddie's ECW TV Championship. This event is most famous for the ending of the show where the ring collapsed when the fans celebrated with the Public Enemy.
  • DVD Extra - Uncensored '97: Ultimo Dragon vs. Psychosis - According to Mike Tenay, this is the first-ever one-on-one match between these two men.
  • DVD Extra - SmackDown 4/18/08: Chavo Guerrero vs. Jamie Noble - Despite doing a sky view segment in these extras, apparently Jamie was unworthy of a video montage in the main feature.
Disc Two

  • Bash at the Beach '97: Chris Jericho vs. Ultimo Dragon - Jericho's Cruiserweight Championship was on the line during this match. As previously mentioned, this is the second match ever from this show to be released on DVD. I'm shocked that the main event of this show (Dennis Rodman & Hulk Hogan vs. Lex Luger & The Giant) has never been released on DVD before. I've always wondered if the reason for that is because they are saving this match for a DVD set on celebrity wrestlers.
  • SummerSlam '95: 1-2-3 Kid vs. Hakushi - For those that don't know, the 1-2-3 Kid went on to wrestle as X-Pac, Syxx, and Sean Waltman.
  • Superstars 7/30/09: John Morrison vs. Tyson Kidd - Prior to the match and video montage, John Morrison does a sky view and notes that this camera feature was first used for his DVD which came out earlier this year.
  • WrestleMania 2000: Hardy Boyz vs. Dudley Boyz vs. Edge & Christian (Edge: A Decade of Decadence; Jeff Hardy: My Life, My Rules) – This match was for the Dudley Boyz' tag team title belts.
  • One Night Stand '05: Super Crazy vs. Tajiri vs. Little Guido - This is an elimination match.
  • Great American Bash '95: Brian Pillman vs. Alex Wright - Both of these men were faces going into the bout.
  • Japan Supershow '91: Great Muta vs. Sting - These two men had an incredible feud back in 1989. I would really love to see their match from Great American Bash '89 on DVD one day. Hopefully once Sting retires, they WWE will make a DVD about him which will include that match.
  • Sunday Night Heat 8/5/01: Rob Van Dam vs. Jerry Lynn - Rob's Hardcore Championship was on the line in this match. If you like this match, you owe it to yourself to try and track down some of their battles from ECW.
  • DVD Extra: Sunday Night Heat 9/27/08: The Hardy Boyz vs. Kai En Tai - This was the Heat debut for the Hardy Boyz. Thankfully, their choice of ring gear has vastly improved over the years. The only thing worse than the Hardy's ring gear in this match was Shane McMahon's commentary.
Disc Three

  • SummerSlam '96: Shawn Michaels vs. Vader (Greatest Stars of the '90s; Shawn Michaels: Boyhood Dream) - Shawn's WWE Championship was on the line in this match.
  • ECW Cyberslam 2/17/96: 2 Cold Scorpio vs. Sabu (The Rise & Fall of ECW) - 2 Cold Scorpio was known as Flash Funk while in the WWE. His ECW Television Championship was on the line in this match.
  • SmackDown 5/14/10: Kofi Kingston vs. Christian - This match was the tournament final for the vacant Intercontinental Championship. The post-match footage of Drew McIntyre getting the title back due to a letter from Vince McMahon is not shown on this DVD.
  • No Way Out '98: Taka Michinoku vs. Pantera - Taka's Lightweight Championship was on the line. The post-match footage involving Taka, Brian Christopher, and Jerry Lawler is shown on the DVD.
  • RAW 12/6/04: Lita vs. Trish Stratus (Viva Las Divas) - Trish's Women's Championship is on the line in the famous match which featured Lita take a very scary bump where she landed on her head outside of the ring.
  • Guilty as Charged 2000: Sabu vs. Rob Van Dam - Regardless of whether Rob Van Dam retained the ECW Television Championship in this match, his manager would walk away representing the champion.
  • RAW 1/7/08: Jeff Hardy vs. Umaga (Twist of Fate: The Matt & Jeff Hardy Story) - Jeff's Intercontinental Championship wasn't on the line in this steel cage match which took place a few weeks before Jeff fought Randy Orton at the Royal Rumble. Randy successfully defended the WWE Championship in that match.
  • Halloween Havoc '97: Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. Eddie Guerrero (Rey Mysterio: 619; Cheating Death, Stealing Life: The Eddie Guerrero Story; Rey Mysterio: Biggest Little Man) - This title vs. mask match is a must-see match that is worthy on being so many DVD releases as this is my favorite match of both men's careers.
  • DVD Extra: World War 3 '98: Juventud Guerrera vs. Billy Kidman - Juventud's Cruiserweight Championship was on the line in this match
