WWE SmackDown: The Best of 2009 - 2010 DVD Review

This 3-disc DVD set takes a look back at the 10th anniversary season of Friday Night SmackDown. The season ran from October 2009 through September 2010.

Format of the DVD: This three-disc DVD set takes a chronological look back at the most important moments and matches that took place during the 10th anniversary season of Friday Night SmackDown. The hosts of the show are Todd Grisham and Matt Striker who are sitting at the commentators booth prior to the taping of an episode of the show. They occasionally appear to talk discuss something special about the show or to move the disc along.

The Year That Was: This DVD gives a fair representation of what the past year for SmackDown was like. It began great and everything was going smoothly until the WWE draft. After the brand lost most of their main event talent to RAW, the matches and moments on this DVD lose steam and importance. It is very telling that the final five months featured on this set were all put onto one disc. Even though they jammed so much onto that last disc, the only thing I felt was glossed over was the feud between Kofi Kingston and Drew McIntyre.

Overall Recommendation: I really like the concept behind these best of the year DVD sets. I appreciate that the company didn't give an equal amount of time to each month and really focused on the better months of the year. My biggest gripe is that the action that took place during the commercial breaks is missing on this DVD set. While this isn't a must-have disc for your DVD collection, there are quite a few special moments on this DVD set that make it a worthwhile purchase.
