Ten Biggest Pro Wrestling Questions to be Answered in 2008

By Eric Cohen, About.com

2007 left fans with many intriguing plots both inside and outside of the ring that will hopefully be resolved in 2008.

1. Will it Rain?

WrestleMania 24 will be taking place outdoors this year at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida. The biggest show of the year has already set a record for the largest gate for any event held at the stadium. While the show has already proven to be a financial success, the weather will have a big factor on whether it is a critical success. Other questions about the show that fans are already wondering about is how can the Money in the Bank ladder match happen in an outdoor stadium and whether the Undertaker can extend his WrestleMania winning streak to 16-0.

2. What Will Happen at the Congressional Hearings?

Sometime in 2008, several professional wrestling organizations will be called to testify in front of two different Congressional committees about their steroid policies. For the first time in their lives, many wrestling fans will tune into C-Span.

3. Will Jeff Hardy Become a Main Event Wrestler?

Jeff Hardy has been one of the most popular stars in the WWE for almost a decade despite never being in the main event scene. In 2007, Jeff ended the year on the precipice of breaking through to the upper level of the company. At January's Royal Rumble, Jeff will be getting his first WWE Title shot on PPV. A great performance can solidify Jeff as a main event talent. A poor performance could send him back to the mid-card status he has been stuck in for too long.

4. Is This the End of the Road for Ric Flair?

2007 ended with Vince McMahon declaring that Ric Flair's next loss will result in the end of his legendary career. Who will be the wrestler to end his career and when will this happen? Ric is my favorite wrestler and I know that his retirement is inevitable, it is not something I am looking forward to.

5. Does Hogan Still Know Best?

2007 ended horribly for Hulk Hogan. His wife filed for divorce and his son was arrested for his involvement in an automobile accident. This family drama is sure to play out on the gossip pages in 2008. As far as Hogan Knows Best, it is not known whether or not if the show is over.

6. Who Will Wind Up With Chris Benoit's Assets?

Due to the final events of Chris Benoit's life, the assets he attained during his life are currently being battled for. Because his horrific actions occurred in Georgia, his assets don't immediately transfer to his two remaining children. In Georgia there is a law that allows the family of a victim to get the assets of a criminal before the criminal's family. Factors that will decide whether the Benoit or Toffoloni family gets the assets include the order of death and whether or not Chris was sick at the time of his horrific actions.

7. Is Wrestling in Georgia Dead?

A few months back, I wrote a blog about a rule being proposed in Georgia that made it seem that wrestling was a real sport. It has since come out that one of the people on the commission behind this rule is also representing Michael Benoit in a lawsuit against the WWE. Despite this obvious conflict of interests, Cary Ichter, a member of the commission behind this ridiculous wrestling law, recently tried to get the WWE to pay $2 million to the surviving children of Chris Benoit.

8. Do Wrestling Fans Need to Upgrade to HDTV?

Starting with the Royal Rumble, WWE PPV events will be available in HD on certain cable systems. There is still no official word on when regular WWE programming will be broadcast in HD.

9. How Badly Will Chyna Embarrass Wrestling Fans?

Chyna has been an embarrassment to herself and wrestling fans for the past few years due to her addictions. Starting in January, wrestling fans will see Chyna go through rehab on the VH1 show Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew. Hopefully she can get her life straightened out before she becomes just another statistic.

10. How Much Benoit Exploitation Will Take Place in 2008?

2007 ended with a story coming out that Hustler will allegedly be printing nude photos of Nancy Benoit. That doesn't seem to be the only exploitation of the Benoit family going to happen in print form this year. There are at least three books about the tragedy that will be coming out in 2008. While some may argue that these books aren't exploitive, a donation to some women's shelters would change my mind that these books aren't only about the money.
