- Royal Rumble 2013 took place on January 27, 2013, at US Airways Center in Phoenix, Arizona. Yesterday, there was a fan festival which featured a tournament involving eight NXT stars competing for a spot in the Royal Rumble Match. That tournament was won by Bo Dallas. Bo is a third-generation superstar. His father is former WWE Tag Team Champion Irwin R. Schyster (aka Mike Rotundo) and his grandfather is WWE Hall of Famer Blackjack Mulligan.

Pre-Show Match for the United States Championship: Champion Antonio Cesaro vs. The Miz - Miz missed a move off the top rope and landed very awkwardly. Despite appearing to legitimately hyperextend the leg, it was the Miz that was looking to end this match with the Figure-Four Leglock. Cesaro escaped out of the ring before the move could be applied and tried to hide under it. When the Miz followed him out, Cesaro shoved Miz into the steel that is behind the ring apron. Cesaro tossed Miz back into the ring and delivered the Neutralizer to get the win. Winner: Antonio Cesaro

The announcers for this show were Jerry Lawler, JBL and Michael Cole.

- When Alberto Del Rio and his personal ring announcer, Ricardo Rodriguez, were on their way to the ring for the upcoming match, they bumped into WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart. Bret endorsed Alberto by saying that he reminded him of a Mexican Bret Hart and he then put his sunglasses on Ricardo.

Last Man Standing Match: World Heavyweight Championship: Champion Alberto Del Rio vs. Big Show - The only way to win this match is to incapacitate your opponent so they can not stand up by the time the referee counts to 10. Big Show dominated the majority of the match. When the action went outside of the ring, Big Show used the stage set to beat up the champion. In an impressive visual, Big Show scaled the set, grabbed Del Rio and delivered a choke slam through a table. Somehow, the champion got up before the referee counted to 10. When Ricardo tried to help out Alberto, Big Show tossed him into the ringside barricade. Big Show then returned his attention to the champion and charged at him. However, he missed the move and crashed through it. Del Rio grabbed a chair and hurt Big Show's arm when he trapped it on a step and then smashed a chair into it. Big Show was blinded with a fire extinguisher and was then put into the Cross Arm Breaker. While Big Show was in the move, Ricardo Rodriguez used duct tape to attach Big Show's legs to the bottom ring rope. Because he was stuck to the rope, Big Show was unable to stand up by the time the referee reached 10. Winner: Alberto Del Rio

WWE Tag Team Championship: Champions Team Hell No (Kane & Daniel Bryan) vs. Team Rhodes Scholars (Cody Rhodes & Damien Sandow) - The challengers gave Kane a double-suplex but were unaware that Kane made a blind tag to his partner. Daniel Bryan hit Damien Sandow with a missile dropkick and Kane hit Cody with a choke slam after Daniel tossed him into his partner's path. Daniel Bryan then applied the No Lock onto Damien Sandow to get the submission victory fr his team. Winners: Team Hell No

- Sheamus gave Dolph Ziggler the Brogue Kick while he was on the ring apron after going over the top rope to eliminate him.

- Cena was about to give Sheamus the 5-Kncukle shuffle bi ran into a Ryback clothesline. Sheamus was able to give Ryback the White Noise after escaping a Shell Shock attempt. Sheamus went for the Brogue Kick but Ryback grabbed him and threw him over the rope.
Final Two: John Cena & Ryback
- Rynack missed a clothesline and was then put into the STF. Cena knocked him out and tried to carry the lifeless carcas of Ryback out of the ring. When he got Ryback to the top rope, Ryback got a second wind and delivered a Thesz Press. Ryback pounded Cena's head to the match and then tried to pick him up. However, Cena countered the move and dumped Ryback over the top rope. John Cena now joins Steve Austin, Hulk Hogan, and Shawn Michaels as the only wrestlers to win multiple Royal Rumble Matches. As a result of winning this match, John Cena earned a world title shot at WrestleMania XXIX.
Winner: John Cena

WWE Championship: Champion CM Punk vs. The Rock - The champion, who has held the title for the past 434 days, had his manager, Paul Heyman at ringside. However, the Shield, the three men that injured the mid-section of The Rock on Monday night, were banned from ringside and if they interfered in this match tonight then Punk would lose the title. The Rock wasn't alone at ringside as his mother was in the front row. During the match, Punk delivered a dropkick and tweaked his knee which was surgically repaired a few weeks ago. The Rock noticed this and went after the knee to pay back Punk for going after his recently injured mid-section. When The Rock went for the Sharpshooter, Punk countered with the Anaconda Vice which Punk was forced to break when Rock rolled Punk's shoulders onto the mat. Rock's second attempt at the move was successful but the champion reached to ropes to force the break. The fight went to the Spanish announcer's table. Punk tried for a Go To Sleep which Rock turned into a Rock Bottom attempt. Unfortunately, the table collapsed before he could deliver the move. The Rock then gave Punk the Rock Bottom on the floor next to the table. When they got back into the ring, Punk hit a roundhouse kick which resulted in the referee counting to nine before both men were able to stand up. Rock was able to recover and after hitting the spinebuster, he went for the People's Elbow. Before he could finish the move, the lights went out and when the lights came back on, Rock was unconscious after being put through the announcer's table. The referee didn't see it but according to the announcers, The Shield gave Rock a triple power bomb through the table. Punk dragged Punk back into the ring and got the 3-count to continue the longest WWE Championship reign over the past quarter-century. During his post-match celebration, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon came out. Before he could strip Punk of the title, The Rock told Vince that the night wouldn't end like this and that he wanted the match to restart. Vince agreed and the match restarted. A livid Punk was able to hit the "Macho Man" elbow which Rock was able to kick out of. He tried for the Go to Sleep which Rock countered out of. The Rock then was able to hit the People's Elbow to win the WWE Championship. Winner: The Rock

What does this event mean for the future?
The Road to WrestleMania appears to be leading to a rematch of last year's main event which was The Rock vs. John Cena, only this time it will be for the title. But before they get to Snoopy Stadium in April, Elimination Chamber will be taking place in three weeks. While Cena's title shot seems to be secure, CM Punk will be entitled to a championship rematch against The Rock.

Overall Thoughts
This show was all about two matches and they both delivered. The Rumble is almost always one of my favorite matches of the year and this was a great one. It began with a great surprise and featured a star-studded cast at the end. The WWE Championship match was also a great one which featured a surprising and enjoyable ending. If you paid for this one, you got your money's worth. This show gets an enthusiastic thumb's up from me.
