TNA World Tag Team Championship: Champions Chavo Guerrero & Hernandez vs. Matt Morgan & Joey Ryan - The gigantic Matt Morgan took over the leadership role for the team and continually barked out orders to his partner. The challengers controlled most of the match and worked over Hernandez until he was able to make the hot tag to Chavo Guerrero. When Chavo went for the Frog Splash on Joey Ryan, Matt Morgan stood in his way. The champions were able to eventually get Matt out of the ring by giving him a double drop kick which only caused Matt to fall to the ground because he tripped over his partner. Moments later, Hernandez hit Joey Ryan with a power bomb and Chavo followed that with the frog splash to get the win for his team. Winners: Chavo Guerrero & Hernandez
Samoa Joe vs. Mr. Anderson - This match was added to the show earlier in the day. During the match, the wrestler formerly known as Mike Knox appeared with a hammer. That distraction allowed Mr. Anderson the opportunity to hit the Mic Check and get the win. Winner: Mr. Anderson
X Division Title Shot Tournament Final: Christian York vs. Kenny King - The winner of this match will immediately get a shot at the X Division Championship. Kenny King seemed to be in control of the match and went for a cradle. Christian York was able to counter the move and get the pin. Following the match, King attacked Christian York and left him lying in the ring clutching at this neck when Rob Van Dam's music hit. Winner: Christian York
X Division Championship: Champion Rob Van Dam vs. Christian York - RVD was conflicted about what to do but when York hit him RVD decided to fight. RVD was having his way with York and begged him to stay down which York refused to do. While the challenger put up a valiant fight, he was no match for RVD who won this match after hitting the five-star frog splash. Winner: Rob Van Dam
Non-title Match: Television Champion Devon vs. Joseph Park - This is Park's first match since graduating from wrestling school. Devon tried to humiliate Park by taunting him to try the moves he learned in wrestling camp on him. After being shown up by the "rookie", Devon resorted to his violent ways. Devon removed a turnbuckle cover and eventually bloodied up Joseph Park with the exposed steel. The sight of the blood caused Park to transform into his Abyss state. He hit the Black Hole Slam and then went for the choke slam. During his attempt at the move, he transformed back into his original state of mind which allowed Devon to roll up the rookie to get the win. Winner: Devon
#1 Contender's Gauntlet Match: Gail Kim vs. ODB vs. Miss Tessmacher vs. Mickie James vs. Velvet Sky - Miss Tessmacher started the match off against Gail Kim. Gail Kim won the fall after hitting the Eat Defeat. ODB came out next but was pinned by Gail Kim with a little aid from holding the tights during the pin fall attempt. Mickie James was the fourth Knockout in the match. Gail scored another elimination by grabbing a handful of tights again. Velvet Sky was the final wrestler to enter the match but before she could enter the ring, Gail Kim smashed her into the ringside steps. Gail tried to use the ropes to ge the pin but this time she was caught by referee Tarry Terrell. Gail started to yell at Tarryn which allowed Velvet the opportunity to score the pin. However, Gail's foot was underneath the rope at the time of the pin but Tarryn didn't see it. Winner: Velvet Sky
Christopher Daniels vs. James Storm - It was announced earlier tonight that the winner of this match will get a shot at the TNA World Heavyweight Championship during the January 24th edition of IMPACT WRESTLING. Kazarian came to the ring with some paperwork showing that he had a manager's license to represent Christopher Daniels for one night. Daniels was able to hit the Angels Wings after Storm missed the Last Call Superkick. However, Storm was able to kick out at two. Daniels went for the BME but caught a boot in the face. Storm went for the Last Call again but he wound up hitting Kazarian with it when the manager went to the ring apron. Daniels was able to take advantage of the situation and used the ropes to steal the win. Winner: Christopher Daniels
Sting vs. D.O.C. - Prior to the start of the fight, the two men fought outside of the ring where several members of Aces & Eights beat up Sting before the bout officially started. However, Sting eventually recovered and finished off D.O.C. with the Stinger Splash/Scorprion Death Drop combo. Following the match, several members of Aces & Eights came out to attack the Stinger. However, Bully Ray came out with his chain and ran them off. Winner:
Elimination Match for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship: Champion Jeff Hardy vs. Bobby Roode vs. Austin Aries - In separate interviews held before the match, Austin Aries and Bobby Roode both said that they would work together to eliminate Jeff Hardy from the match and then settle their differences against one another after that. A highlight of their double-teaming was when Roode put Aries on his shoulder and Aries went for a suplex on Jeff who was on the top rope. Hardy reversed the attempt and hit both men with the Whisper in the Wind. When it appeared their teamwork was going to work out for them, Roode held Jeff's leg and instructed Aries to hit the 450. Roode pulled Jeff out of the way and tried to pin his friend with the Perfectplex. Moments later, Aries trapped Roode in the Last Chancery but was able to escape with an eye rake. Roode then put Aries in the cross-face but was able to escape the move. Moments later, Aries tried to pin Roode with a back slide and it worked when Hardy sneaked into the ring and covered Roode. When Aries found out that he wasn't credited with the pin, he got into an argument with the referee. That allowed Jeff to hit Aries with the Twist of Fate and Swanton Bomb to get the win. Winner: Jeff Hardy
What does this event mean for the future?
The big news coming out of this show is that Jeff Hardy will be defending the TNA World Heavyweight Championship against Christopher Daniels in two weeks on IMPACT WRESTLING. However, before we get to that episode of the show, there will be a wedding on Thursday night as Brooke Hogan and Bully Ray will be tying the knot.
One of my issues over the years with TNA is that with the exception of their big three events, the other nine shows of the year feel like an event that needed to take place for a contractual reason. This show is a perfect example of that as the event felt more like an infomercial for upcoming editions of IMPACT WRESTLING as opposed to the it being the other way around. Thankfully, as I mentioned on Thursday, TNA has changed their pay-per-view strategy and this marks the end of the monthly era of their live pay-per-view events.
As far as this show goes, it felt like a really good episode of IMPACT WRESTLING until the final match which was the only one worth paying for. While it was a great main event, I can't justify ordering a replay of this show for just that one match. If you did order this show, I think that you got exactly what you should have expected from this show. Overall, I give this show a slight thumb's down as some of the matches which the crowd seemed to be into (ex: Sting vs. D.O.C.) really didn't translate well to the television audience.
