10. Will Daniel Bryan really wait until WrestleMania to cash in his title shot?
One of the problems with writing a list like this before the year actually ends is that a question like this might get answered before the ball drops in Times Square. That happened in this case as Daniel Bryan cashed in the title shot at TLC 2011. At that event, Big Show won the World Heavyweight Championship from Mark Henry in a Chairs Match. Following the match, Mark Henry gave the new champion a DDT on top of several chairs. Daniel Bryan took advantage of this situation to cash in his title shot and win the title. He would go on to hold the title until WrestleMania XXVIII where he lost the title to Sheamus in a match which lasted only 18 seconds.
9. What will be revealed on 1/2/12?
Chris Jericho made his return to the company on that date after a series of hint videos reminiscent of his the two that preceded his first two stints with the company. Unlike his first appearance with the company where was involved in a memorable verbal altercation with the Rock, this time Chris never spoke. He went several weeks without uttering a word. His third stint with the company didn't last too long as he was gone by the end of the summer to hit the road with Fozzy promoting their new CD.
8. Will Linda McMahon become a Senator?
Linda McMahon ran for Senate again in 2012 and while her opponent was different the results were almost the exact same. She lost both elections to her Democratic opponent after receiving approximately 43%of the vote in both elections. According to many published reports, Linda spent around $90 million of her fortune on her losing campaigns.
7. Who will headline the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2012?
Edge was the headliner of the 2012 Class of the WWE Hall of Fame. The other wrestlers inducted this year were The Four Horsemen (Flair/Blanchard/Anderson/Windham), Mil Mascaras, Ron Simmons, Yokozuna, and Mike Tyson.
6. Will the Undertaker wrestle at WrestleMania XXVIII?
The Undertaker fought only once in 2011 and that was at WrestleMania XXVII. At that show he brought his winning streak up to 19 by defeating Triple H. History repeated itself in 2012 as the Undertaker only fought once this year and that was against the Triple H at WrestleMania XXVIII. Only this time, he beat Triple H in a Hell in a Cell Match which featured Shawn Michaels as the special guest referee.
5. Who will be in control of RAW?
The year began with John Laurinaitis as the Interim General Manager of RAW. He became the permanent General Manager of both RAW and SmackDown when his team defeated a team led by Teddy Long at WrestleMania XXVIII. The era of People Power didn't last too long as he was fired from the job in June after Big Show lost a Steel Cage Match to John Cena at No Way Out. In July at RAW 1,000, AJ was named the new General Manager of the show but resigned from the position in October when allegations were made that she was having an affair with a wrestler on the roster. Later that night, Vince McMahon appointed Vickie Guerrero the "Managing Supervisor" of the show. At this point in time, the job of General Manager is still vacant.
4. Will Matt Hardy be going to prison?
Starting last August, Matt Hardy began a downward spiral which saw him arrested four times, involved in multiple vehicular incidents, released from his job, hospitalized several times, and even kicked out of rehab. 2012 was a better year for Matt as he never got arrested and he also got his wrestling career back on track as he wrestled at Ring of Honor's Final Battle. However, Matt still has some legal issues ahead of him. He has court dates scheduled for both March and August of 2013 due to the issues he had last year.
3. Will Kurt Angle return to the Olympics?
Kurt Angle trained for the qualifiers for the Olympics but was forced to withdraw from the event due to knee and hamstring injuries.
2. The WWE Network
At this time last year, wrestling fans were in great anticipation of the launch of The WWE Network. Unfortunately, the channel has yet to make its debut and we are all left wondering when this channel will launch. In a call with investors in November, Vince McMahon said that the channel will be a premium subscription channel but he did not say when the channel would begin.
1. John Cena or The Rock?
For the first time, we entered the year knowing what the main event of WrestleMania was going to be. In the ring, the battle between John Cena and The Rock was won by The Rock. However, the real winners of the match were the WWE and Miami. WrestleMania XXVIII set new company records for pay-per-view buys and gross sales. According to a press release by the company, the event garnered 1.3 million pay-per-view buys with global gross sales in excess of $67 million including the live event. The city of Miami did even better as a study conducted by the Enigma Research Corporation revealed that the show had an economic impact of over $100 million for the community.
