- Vengeance 2011 took place on October 23, 2011, at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas. The announcers for this show were Jerry Lawler, Booker T, and Michael Cole.

WWE Tag Team Championship: Champions Air Boom (Evan Bourne & Kofi Kingston) vs. Jack Swagger & US Champion Dolph Ziggler - The challengers were escorted to the ring by their manager, Vickie Guerrero. Despite having her in their corner, the champions were able to retain the titles after Dolph Ziggler was hit with the Trouble in Paradise followed by the Air Bourne. To make matters worse for Dolph Ziggler, he had to defend the US Championship immediately following this bout. Winners: Air Boom

US Championship: Champion Dolph Ziggler vs. Zack Ryder - Everyone from the previous match stayed at ringside. During the bout, Dolph tried to crawl up the ramp but was thrown back into the ring by Air Boom. Due to their actions, the referee made the tag team champions go to the back. A few moments later, Dolph Ziggler missed the Zig Zag but Zack couldn't take advantage of it because of Jack Swagger's interference. Dolph Ziggler was then able to hit a Super Kick to retain the title. Winner: Dolph Ziggler

- In the back, Beth Phoenix attacked Kelly Kelly until Eve made the save. Because of this, Kelly Kelly and Natalya were not allowed at ringside for the Divas Championship Match.

Divas Championship: Champion Beth Phoenix vs. Eve - Both women were intent on making the other scream out in pain as a sign of weakness. The ending of this one saw Eve miss a moonsault off the top rope. That allowed Beth to hit the Glam Slam and retain the title. Winner: Beth Phoenix

Christian vs. Sheamus - Even though he was able to escape two Celtic Cross attempts, Christian did not have the luck of the Irish on his side tonight. After hitting Sheamus with a Frankensteiner off the top rope, Christian went for a Spear. Sheamus wound up hitting him with the Brogue Kick instead to get the win. Winner: Sheamus

Triple H & CM Punk vs. The Miz & R-Truth - While Triple H was fighting R-Truth outside of the ring, Kevin Nash appeared from the crowd and attacked him. Inside of the ring, CM Punk was about to hit the GTS on The Miz but his partner saved him from the move. The two men each hit Punk with their finishing maneuvers to get the win. Following the bout, Kevin Nash continued his assault on Triple H and left him lying in the ring after hitting him with the Jackknife Power Bomb. Winners: The Miz & R-Truth

Non-title Match: Randy Orton vs. Intercontinental Champion Cody Rhodes - Cody Rhodes was able to hit Orton with the Cross Roads due to the interference of one of his baggers but only got a 2-count. Later in the match, Cody was tossed into one of his baggers when he unsuccessfully tried to interfere in the bout. That allowed Randy to hit the RKO to get the win. Winner: Randy Orton

World Heavyweight Championship: Champion Mark Henry vs. Big Show - In this battle of behemoths, the loser of the bout was the ring. When Mark Henry gave Big Show a superplex, the ring collapsed. The match was stopped as medical personnel came to the ring. While Mark Henry was barely able to walk out of the ring and shrugged off using the stretcher, Big Show was taken out of the arena on a motorized cart. Winner: No Contest

Last Man Standing Match for the WWE Championship: Champion Alberto Del Rio vs. John Cena - John Cena debuted a new look for this bout as he wore a black shirt that said "Rise Above Hate" and wasn't wearing his traditional jean shorts. More importantly, the ring was still broken from the previous match. Despite dealing with the broken ring and the interference of Roberto Rodrigez, Cena appeared to be on the cusp of winning the title when he gave Alberto Del Rio an Attitude Adjustment through the Spanish announcer's table. However, the referee didn't make the 10-count because The Miz and R-Truth stormed the ring and attacked Cena. While John was able to beat the 10-count after both men hit him with their finishing maneuvers, he was unable to beat the 10-count after Alberto Del Rio hit him in the head with the WWE Championship. Winner: Alberto Del Rio

What does this event mean for the future?
The next PPV event is The Survivor Series. The main event of that show will feature a 10-man tag team Elimination Match. Going into this PPV, we already knew that John Cena and the Rock were going to be partners. Due to the events of this show, I am going to have to assume that CM Punk and Triple H will be joining them and that their opponents team will include Alberto Del Rio, Kevin Nash, R-Truth, and The Miz. I'm not sure who will be the fifth man on either team yet but I am sure we will find out over the course of the next few weeks.

Overall Thoughts
This event was designed as a way to get us from Hell in a Cell to Survivor Series. The show accomplished this much better than Bragging Rights, the event which this show replaced on the WWE Calendar, could have. This show was also an upgrade over the concept and execution of Bragging Rights. While there were no match of the year candidates, there wasn't anything horrible on this show either. It wasn't a bad way to spend three hours and I would recommend renting the DVD when it comes out.
