The 10 Biggest Questions Heading Into 2011

By , About.com Guide

2011 begins with the TNA World Heavyweight Champion facing major drug charges and one of the biggest stars in WrestleMania history possibly being forced to miss the show due to an injury.

10. What will be the fate of NXT?

NXT replaced ECW on the SyFy network in 2010.  The show's premise is taking several wrestlers from WWE's developmental territory and having them compete for a WWE contract.  In the middle of the third run of the series, the show was dropped from SyFy and moved to wwe.com.  As if that wasn't a bad enough omen for this new show, WWE plans on bringing back Tough Enough, a show which ran for a few seasons back in the early years of the new century.  That show had a similar premise to NXT.  But instead of using trained wrestlers almost ready to make it to the WWE, this show taught new comers to the sport the art of professional wrestling.

9. Will there be an announcement about a location for the WWE Hall of Fame?

Currently, the home of the WWE Hall of Fame is the mind of Vince McMahon.  That may change in 2011 as Orlando proclaimed in 2010 that they would like to have a physical structure built in their city.  Other cities have been intrigued by this idea and will almost certainly make counteroffers to the WWE about having a WWE Hall of Fame in their city.  It is very possible that there will be an announcement about a physical building made in 2011.

8. When will Triple H return to the ring?

Triple H has not wrestled on television since Sheamus injured him in April.  He did wrestle once in November in an untelevised event so he is physically able to compete.  With stars like Shawn Michaels, Batista, Chris Jericho, and possibly the Undertaker not being available to wrestle at WrestleMania XXVII, it is very likely that Triple H will return to the ring soon to give that show some needed star power.

7. Will WrestleMania have a WCW theme?

WrestleMania XXVII will be taking place in Atlanta this year.  That city is most famous in wrestling circles for being the home of World Championship Wrestling, the company that WWE bought in 2001 after having a major rivalry with them the previous decade.  With this show taking place in Atlanta, I could see WWE celebrating the wrestling tradition of that city by inducting several WCW stars into the WWE Hall of Fame or having a battle royal at the show featuring some of the former stars from that company.

One of the major stories over the past few years at WrestleMania has been the Undertaker's undefeated streak at the show.  While the Undertaker is 18-0 at WrestleMania, there have been some years where he has been forced to miss the show due to injury.  Unfortunately, that may be the case this year as the Undertaker underwent surgery for a torn rotator cuff in October.  It usually takes around six months to recover from that surgery which will be around the time of the big show.  The last time he missed WrestleMania was in 2000.

5. What will be the outcome of the Martha Hart lawsuit?

Shortly after the WWE released a DVD about the Hart family, Martha Hart filed a lawsuit against the WWE claiming the WWE has violated the terms of the settlement the two signed shortly after the death of Owen Hart.  There are also questions about whether the WWE or the estate of Owen Hart own the trademarks and copyrights for his name and likeness.

4. Will Linda McMahon run for Senate again?

While Linda McMahon lost in her bid to become a US Senator in 2010, she could announce in 2011 that she plans to run again in 2012.  The seat that will be up for grabs in Connecticut is currently held by Joseph Lieberman.  He has held that seat since 1988.  However, he won that seat while a Democrat but lost the party's support in the 2006 election making him an independent holding the seat.  Lieberman is most famous to people outside of Connecticut for almost becomming the Vice President in 2000.

3. Will Jeff Hardy be going to jail?

Jeff Hardy was arrested in September of 2009 after police found drugs in his home. After almost a year in trial delays, the DA has announced that Jeff plans to enter into a plea bargain deal with them and will plead guilty to the charges filed against him on January 20.

2. Will Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff stay with TNA?

2009 ended with the huge surprise that Eric Bischoff and Hulk Hogan were joining TNA.  During an interview Eric Bischoff did sometime in 2010, it came out that he and Hulk Hogan had signed a two-year deal with the company.  It is going to be very interesting to see whether or not Hogan and Bischoff decide to resign with the company later this year.

1. Who is the mystery GM?

2010 began with the celebrity guest host being the GM of RAW during the week they hosted the program.  A few months later, Bret Hart was named as the permanent GM of the show but was relieved of his duties after being injured at the hands of the Nexus.  Vince McMahon then made the decision that the new GM of RAW was going to remain anonymous.  The anonymous GM communicates to the wrestlers through email messages he sends to Michael Cole during the program.
