On Tuesday, WWE Champion CM Punk underwent knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus. WWE.com claims that he suffered on Monday night when Ryback tossed him through a table. Because of this surgery, CM Punk will not be able to defend his title at TLC against Ryback.
WWE Chairman Vince McMahon made an announcement today in regards to the title and the main event of the next WWE pay-per-view event. According to his statement, Ryback will be getting a title shot against Punk in the very near future. As far as the main event of TLC goes, Ryback will be teaming with Kane and Daniel Bryan to take on The Shield in a six-man tag team TLC Match. That match will not take place under normal TLC Match rules as the only way to win this one will be via pin-fall or submission.

Was totally hoping when I heard about Punk that they would up the Ziggler/Cena match to a TLC match and just make this a street fight type of match…bummer to hear that the TLC will take a step back with nothing to climb that ladder for other than to beat someone senseless.
It’s really too bad the WWE doesn’t take advantage of this and have a multi-wrestler ladder match for Punk’s title.
If they didn’t insist on choreographing entire matches, and trusted wrestlers to combine their own spots, the lack of preparation time would give the match a spontaneous “feel” that has been lacking in the WWE for a long time.
Punk would have a great angle when he came back from surgery, too, and could complain about having the title “stolen” from him and that he is “still the champion because he never lost his title.” The WWE is dropping the ball here.
WWE is so predictable and is in danger of becoming staid and uninteresting.
The WWE needs to look backwards and get an attitude adjsutment and up the wrestling ante and drop the soap opera feel.
Is there a reason why Punk gets to keep his title, when every other champ has had to relinquish upon injury? I don’t think its a good replacement match at all.
Predictable as always. ROH is where its at this December. Eric, it would be nice if you covered ROH more. STEEN VS GENERICO! LADDER WAR! The line up for the best WRESTLING organisation’s biggest event of the year is stacked. A ‘predictions article and PPV review would be great.
Colleen, they are so heavily invested in Punk’s title reign being all about the number of consecutive days that I get why they are protecting this instead of just getting the belt on someone else.
