WWE Elimination Chamber 2010 PPV Recap and Results

By February 21, 2010

Follow me on:

Elimination Chamber Match for the WWE Championship: Champion Sheamus vs. John Cena vs. Triple H vs. Randy Orton vs. Ted DiBiase vs. Kofi Kingston - The match started with Kofi Kingston battling Sheamus. Triple H, Randy Orton, Ted DiBiase, and John Cena all entered the match before there was an elimination. For several minutes, DiBiase and Orton worked as a team. Cody Rhodes came out and dropped a pipe into the structure. When Cena had Orton in position for the Attitude Adjustment, DiBiase hit both men with the pipe and then pinned his mentor, Randy Orton. DiBiase was the next man eliminated when Kofi hit him with the Trouble in Paradise. Kofi was then eliminated by Sheamus after being hit by the big kick and Razor's Edge. Triple H eliminated Sheamus with the pedigree and Cena won the match by forcing Triple H to tap out to the STF. Winner and New Champion: John Cena

WWE Championship: Champion John Cena vs. Batista - After the chamber match ended, Vince McMahon came out and made this match. Batista hit the spear and Batista Bomb to easily win the match and the title. Winner and New Champion: Batista

Intercontinental Championship: Champion Drew McIntyre vs. Kane - When Kane went for the choke slam, Drew backed into the ropes. When the referee tried to break up the move, Drew poked Kane in the eye and then hit the Future Shock DDT to get the win. Winner: Drew McIntyre

Tournament Final for the Vacant Divas Championship: Maryse vs. Gail Kim - Before the start of the match, Vickie Guerrero came out to complain about the comments the RAW Divas have made about the SmackDown Divas. As the only Diva with authority in the building tonight, she changed this to a tag team match as Maryse and Gail Kim will now battle Layla El and Michelle McCool. Winner: Match didn't happen

Gail Kim & Maryse vs. Michelle McCool & Layla El - This was more like a handicap match as Maryse refused to help out her partner. After having her tag refused by her partner, Gail Kim was pinned by Michelle McCool after she hit the Faith Breaker. After the match, Maryse hit her partner with the French Kiss. Winners: Michelle McCool and Layla El

- The Miz is interviewed about the upcoming show WWE NXT. He claims that while his protege is an Internet darling, he sees a loser. With his help, Daniel Bryan will have the look and charisma of a WWE Superstar. MVP interrupts the interview and says that by beating the Miz in a tag team match on RAW, he will be getting a shot at the US Title tonight.

- William Regal comes to the ring. Since ECW has ended, he is now a free agent. Regal is also one of the mentors for WWE NXT. His speech is broken up by Edge, the man with a guaranteed main event title shot at WrestleMania XXVI. Edge announces that he will make his decision of which champion he will face at the show of shows tomorrow night. He then gave William Regal the spear.

US Championship: Champion The Miz vs. MVP - The Miz was escorted to the ring by Big Show while Mark Henry escorted MVP to the ring. During the match, the Miz accidentally cut his head open with a head butt. Unlike in recent months, the match continued without any medical staff entering the ring. Towards the end of the match, Big Show and Mark Henry got into it outside of the ring. Mark Henry missed a splash and crashed through a barricade. The Miz then distracted the referee and Big Show hit MVP with the KO punch from outside of the ring. Miz then easily pinned MVP. Winner: The Miz

Elimination Chamber Match for the World Heavyweight Championship: Champion Undertaker vs. John Morrison vs. R-Truth vs. CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho vs. Rey Mysterio - The match started with R-Truth battling CM Punk. Punk hit the Go to Sleep to pin Truth. Rey entered next and eliminated Punk after hitting a 'rana off the top rope onto the steel grate and then followed that with the springboard splash. Chris Jericho and John Morrison were the next two wrestlers to enter the cage. Morrison blocked a top rope 'rana by Rey and hit the Star Ship Pain to eliminate Rey. The Undertaker was the last man to enter the match. Morrison was eliminated by the Undertaker when he went for the Chuck Kick on Jericho but was grabbed by the Undertaker. Undertaker gave him a choke slam on the grate and then pinned him. Chris Jericho and Undertaker battled for a few minutes when Undertaker was about to go for the Tombstone. However, Shawn Michaels entered the ring from underneath one of the grates. He gave the Undertaker the sweet chin music and then allowed Jericho to pin the Dead Man to win the title. Winner and New Champion: Chris Jericho

What does this event mean for the future?
WrestleMania XXVI takes place on March 28. The main event of the show will feature Edge battling either Batista or Chris Jericho for a championship. In addition to that guaranteed title shot, Undertaker, Sheamus, and John Cena all leave this event as former champions that are in line for a championship rematch.

Overall Thoughts
After the Hell in a Cell PPV event a few months ago where the cage was barely used, I was afraid that because of the new WWE blood policy that the chamber structure cage wouldn't be utilized. My fears were unfounded as most of the spots this match is famous for was used while a few new ones were also used.

The first and last hours of this show were incredible while the middle part of the show was used as a way to give fans a rest after the shocking events of the first part of the show ended. After last year's awesome No Way Out utilized the same format, the final show before WrestleMania is now my favorite annual event of the year excluding WrestleMania. While not as awesome as last year's show was, this was still an incredible show and worth the purchase price.

You made a great recap ! You only got 1 thing wrong at the part about the Elimination Chamber for the World Heavyweight Championship. At the end you said this:

‘Rey and Undertaker battled for a few minutes when Undertaker was about to go for the Tombstone.’

It was Chris Jericho, not Rey Mysterio. But that doesn’t matter at all, because this recap was awesome!
Anyway, I really loved the EC PPV. Yet, there were a couple of things that I didn’t like: Batista as new WWE Champion, Drew McIntyre still IC Champion, The Miz still US Champion… But other than that, some great things happened too. I mean, John Morrison did a great job here, so did Kofi Kingston, MVP and Mark Henry together as a tag team again, the steel walls being used a lot during both EC matches, Edge spearing William Regal for no reason at all, …
It was a great PPV !
And now a comment on all these people who are mad at Vince because of what happened, or people who say things like ‘Chris Jericho didn’t deserve to become the WH Champion.’
There ain’t no reason to be mad at Vince, in fact he and the whole WWE crew put up a great show !
And there isn’t 1 Superstar who ‘deserves’ to become Champion, it’s not real… They don’t fight for it… They just do what the writers tell them to do…
