WWE Hell in a Cell 2009 Recap and Results

Sunday October 4, 2009

Hell in a Cell Match for the World Heavyweight Championship: Champion CM Punk vs. The Undertaker - CM Punk worked on the knee of the Undertaker early in the match. His knee troubles allowed Punk to escape from the Tombstone on two occasions. Later in the match, Punk brought a chair in the ring. That wound up being his undoing. When Punk charged into the corner with the chair to hit the Undertaker, Undertaker kicked the chair into Punk's face. The Undertaker then hit the choke slam and the Tombstone to get the win and the title. Winner and New Champion: The Undertaker

Intercontinental Championship: Champion John Morrison vs. Dolph Ziggler - The story of this match was that both men seemed to have counters for each others moves. Both men seemed to be very close to victory on numerous occasions. Things looked great for Ziggler after Morrison missed the Starship Pain for the second time. However, Ziggler missed the Zig Zag and a few moments later Morrison connected with the Starship Pain to get the win in a very entertaining match. Winner: John Morrison

- The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles make an appearance in the arena and a commercial for their new video game is shown.

Divas Championship: Champion Mickie James vs. Alicia Fox - When Alicia missed the scissors kick, Mickie hit the DDT to get the win. Winner: Mickie James

Unified Tag Team Championship: Champions Big Show & Chris Jericho vs. Batista & Rey Mysterio - When Batista and Jericho were recuperating on the floor outside of the ring, the action inside of it featured Rey and Big Show. Rey hit the 619 then attempted the jump off the top rope but was caught by the right hand of the Big Show. Big Show easily pinned Rey to retain the title for his team. Winners: Big Show and Chris Jericho

Hell in a Cell Match for the WWE Championship: Champion John Cena vs. Randy Orton - During the match, Orton tapped out to the STF. Unfortunately for Cena, the referee was knocked out. When Cena tried to revive the referee, Orton hit the RKO. A few moments later, Orton tied Cena in the ropes and choked him. When the referee released Cena from the ropes, he slumped to the floor. When he finally got up, he was greeted with the punt to the skull. Orton then pinned Cena to win the title. Luckily for Cena, Orton's legs were weakened during the match and while he lost the title, he was able to leave the ring without the help of the medics. Winner and New Champion: Randy Orton

Drew McIntyre vs. R-Truth - When R-Truth was on the top rope pounding on the head of Drew, Drew was able to knock him off the top rope. He then hit a double under hook DDT to get the win. Winner: Drew McIntyre

US Championship: Champion Kofi Kingston vs. The Miz vs. Jack Swagger - Jack Swagger hit the gut wrench power bomb on the Miz. Before he could pin the Miz, Kofi hit Swagger with the Trouble in Paradise. Kofi then covered the Miz to retain the title. Winner: Kofi Kingston

Hell in a Cell Match: D-Generation X vs. Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase - Before the match started, Legacy attacked DX. They knocked Triple H out on the top of the ramp and used a chain to injure the knee of Shawn Michaels. Legacy then dragged Shawn into the cell and locked the door. Shawn was left to fend for himself for several minutes until Triple H got the bolt cutters to open the door. After hitting Ted DiBiase with a pedigree on the floor, DX tossed him from the open cage and locked the door with a new chain. They put a chair around the neck of Cody and Shawn hit him with a flying elbow off the top rope. DX then hit Cody with a simultaneous Sweet Chin Music and sledge hammer shot to the face to get the win. Winners: D-Generation X

What does this event mean for the future?
With it appearing as though the two big feuds on RAW have finally ended, the WWE's next PPV event, Bragging Rights, will feature a SmackDown vs. RAW theme. While details of this event will be revealed tomorrow, I really hope we have seen the last of the two RAW main events that have been the main event of the past three PPV events.

Overall Thoughts
While there was nothing on this show that you have to go out of your way to see, there wasn't anything really bad on the show either. There were enough good-very good matches on this show to make it an enjoyable show. If you didn't see this show, I'm iffy on whether you should order the replay, however you should try to see this show once it is available on DVD.

I knew undertaker would be the new champion because teddy long reinstated hells gate and in a hell in a cell match i knew CM Punk was doomed.

(3) Alex says:

It’s good to know that the bookers are doing something right this year: allowing Orton to be a dominant champion and have numerous title reigns, whilst restricting both of Cena’s to three week stints.

D-X vs. Legacy was slugish and should have been the mid-card cell match, Taker vs. Punk wasn’t great but at least the Phenom is champion again, and Orton vs. Cena was a good way to end their feud.

John Cena is the winner because Randy orton tapped out during the match in hell in a Cell.I dnt knw why they are doing this to CENAAAAA.

its not fear that orton always get to win ,they should finish this feud in a last man standing match with a enforcer just in case.

I didn’t notice any blood at all on this PPV which is kind of odd for a Hell In A Cell event. The PG rating strikes again!

(9) john says:

That will be a bad deal for Cena in the next match. Orton wants every thing his way and so this match will be, if Cena looses he has to leave WWE, in orton looses he can keep on wrestling with disqualified moves and usual with extra help from his buddy’s. Some wrestler should fix Orton for good I was thinking of Drew McIntyre.

By the way, were is Vince? because, he must keep Cena in the WWE. If Cena looses I watch an other channel.

John,

Cena will not be forced to leave the WWE if he loses next month, he will be forced to leave RAW. He would still be allowed to wrestle for SmackDown or ECW.

poor john cena … he has taken birth only get beating from randy orton … he is good for nothing … he has given so many chances to get the pride back for his fans but he could not succeed …. so he should sit back home and learn some more tactics to beat randy orton … randy orton is not the best but better than john cena

(20) John says:

You have it all wrong. John Cena is a better wrestler than Orton, but he is afraid he hurt his opponent to much while Orton kicks people in the skull, he can only win with extra help from Rhodes and Debiasi. Orton always looks as if he lost something or has a screw loose while Cena is a crowd pleaser and a gentleman.

I hear every time when Vince comes in the ring and argue with Teddy Long that he is on probation, Vince must realize that Mr.Long is the best manager he ever had and Teddy should be promoted.

(21) Freakin bored says:

(22) undertaker says:

Hell in a cell is always a great event every year.
