The Bash 2009 Recap & Results

Sunday June 28, 2009
Scramble Match for the ECW Championship: Champion Tommy Dreamer vs. Christian vs. Jack Swagger vs. Finlay vs. Mark Henry - The rules of this match are that it starts off as a one-on-one match. Every "five minutes" another man enters the match. When the time limit of the match expires, the last wrestler that scores a pin fall or submission walks out of this match with the title. The first two men in this match are Christian and Jack Swagger. Finlay is the third man in the match. Swagger rolled up Finlay for the three-count following a poke to Finlay’s injured eye. Tommy Dreamer entered the match. Finlay pinned Swagger following the Celtic Cross. Mark Henry was the final man to enter the match. Mark Henry pinned Tommy Dreamer following the World’s Strongest Slam. Swagger pinned Henry following a reverse body press off the second rope. Tommy Dreamer pinned Christian following the DDT with a little more than a minute left. That was the final pin of the match. Winner: Tommy Dreamer

- Edge entered Teddy Long’s office and reminded Teddy that he is on probation. Edge tries to get himself added to the World Championship match tonight but Teddy Long doesn’t go for this. Teddy tells him that he never should have left Vickie because she would have helped him. Edge warns Teddy that he might soon be unemployed like Vickie.

Title vs. Mask: Intercontinental Champion Chris Jericho vs. Rey Mysterio - This was the best match these men have had against each other and the crowd was really into it. This one ended when the men were reversing cradles on each other and Jericho took the mask off of Rey. However Rey was wearing another mask and the distraction allowed Rey to kick Jericho in the head, hit the 619, then the springboard splash to get the win. Winner and new champion: Rey Mysterio

- Chris Jericho storms into Teddy Long’s office demanding a rematch tonight. Teddy mentions that next month will mark five years for him being a GM and then tells Jericho to leave his office.

No Count-Out, No Disqualification Match: Great Khali vs. Dolph Ziggler - When it appeared Khali was going to win the match, Kane came out and hit Khali with several chair shots. When Kane left the ring, Ziggler pinned the Great Khali. Winner: Dolph Ziggler

- Vince McMahon entered Teddy Long’s office. Vince apologized for putting Long on probation. However, he said that when he heard Teddy tell Jericho that he was the longest reigning GM in WWE history that Vince couldn’t think of anything Teddy has done. He even said that Mike Adamle did more as a GM. Vince left and said that Teddy was still on probation and needed to shake things up.

Unified Tag Team Championship: Champions Carlito & Primo Colon vs. Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase - Before the match starts, Teddy Long comes out and says this is now a triple-threat match. He added Edge and Chris Jericho to the match. Edge and Jericho had difficulty getting into this match. When Carlito wasn’t looking, Edge was able to tag a dazed Rhodes while Carlito was performing the backstabber. When Carlito argued with the referee for not making the count, Edge hit the spear to get the win and win the titles. The legal in-ring time for Edge and Jericho was only a few seconds. Winners and new champions: Edge and Chris Jericho

- Orton tells Legacy not to worry about what happened. Orton tells them that they have to be focused to help him retain the title. DiBiase got mad at Orton because he didn’t care about them and treated them like henchmen. DiBiase left in anger and Rhodes told Orton that he would talk to DiBiase.

Women's Championship: Champion Melina vs. Michelle McCool - Alicia Fox accompanied McCool to the ring. McCool worked over the left leg of Melina for the majority of the match. At one point, it looked like McCool was going to be pinned but Alicia Fox put McCool’s foot on the rope. Melina hit Alicia but the distraction allowed McCool to take over the match and hit the Faith Breaker to get the win and become the first woman to ever hold both the Women’s and Divas Championship in WWE history. Winner and new champion: Michelle McCool

World Heavyweight Championship: Champion CM Punk vs. Jeff Hardy - Jeff was able to hit the Twist of Fate and then the Swanton Bomb and appeared to pin Punk. The referee counted to three and Jeff’s music played. However, Punk’s foot was under the rope and the referee restarted the match. After the restart, Punk was hit in the eye by Jeff’s elbow. The referee was then kicked by Punk. Jeff felt that Punk got himself purposely disqualified and when Punk tried to leave the arena, Hardy beat dragged him back to the ring and pummeled Punk until referees came out to break it up. Winner: Jeff Hardy by DQ

- Carlito and Primo entered Teddy Long’s office. Teddy said that since Vince told him to shake things up he did what he did. He then told the Colons to leave his office.

- Orton tries to call Rhodes on his cell to see where Legacy is at.

John Cena vs. The Miz - Cena got his revenge on Miz for mocking him for the past few weeks. Cena hit the Attitude Adjustment and then applied the STF to force the Miz to submit. Winner: John Cena

Three Stages of Hell for the WWE Championship: Champion Randy Orton vs. Triple H - The rules of this match are that it is a best of three-falls match. The first fall will be fought under regular rules. The second fall is a Falls Count Anywhere Match. The third fall, if necessary is a Stretcher Match. The first fall ended when Triple H purposely got himself disqualified by using a steel chair. He pummeled Orton with the chair over a dozen times. When Orton rolled out of the ring, Triple H gave him the pedigree to win the second fall. The third fall was a violent battle that went into the crowd and was fought on the ramp. Triple H was inches away from dragging the stretcher over the designated line when he was attacked by Legacy. Triple H took care of both members of Legacy by using his sledgehammer which he had hidden in the set. However, Orton used that piece of the set to hit Triple H. He then put him on the stretcher and moved it a few inches to go over the line to win the match. However, his celebration was short-lived because Triple H hit him with the sledgehammer while he was celebrating. Winner: Randy Orton

What does this event mean for the future?
In four weeks, the WWE presents Night of Champions. This event will feature only championship matches and all eight titles in the WWE will be on the line.

While the feud between Jericho and Rey seems to be over, nothing has been settled between CM Punk and Jeff Hardy. The bigger story for SmackDown though is the situation involving Teddy Long being on probation.

RAW seems to have been shaken up a bit as Edge and Chris Jericho can now appear on the show due to their winning the tag team titles. They are set up for feuds with both the Colon Brothers and Legacy. A feud with Legacy could get them involved in the main event scene on RAW. On the topic of the main event scene, I don’t know where John Cena fits into it but I can guarantee you that the feud between Triple H and Randy Orton is far from over.

As far as ECW goes, I don’t have a clue as to who will be Tommy Dreamer’s next challenger or where the brand goes from here.

Overall Thoughts
Since WrestleMania, this is the fourth straight PPV event the WWE has had in three week intervals. For the first three of these events, SmackDown had significantly better matches than RAW, with the RAW main event matches being kind of a let down. Finally, a RAW main event has lived up the hype. However, the best match of the show went on second as Jericho and Mysterio have put on an absolutely incredible series of matches over the past few events. I really liked this show. While this isn’t a must-see event, it wasn’t a waste of money either.

They should have reunited Edge & Christian for the belts…

Edge & Christian would of probaly been a good choice for the belts because Chris Jericho is having great single matches. Maybe WWE is trying to put a boost in their tag team scene instead of always being focused on the single competition. Tag team champions should be a big deal. Maybe they are taking a script from TNA. After they fix the tag team scene they need to work on the woman division. Put that belt on the real wrestlers like Beth Phenix or Mickey James. The rest really don’t cause any excitement other than showing off their good looks.

What’s the matter with Vince? He put Teddy Long on probation now that is stupid.
Mr. Long is the most liked man in the ring the best manager Vince ever had and he want to screw it up again. Vince don’t do it.
Bravo Rey Misterio the most clever man in the ring and a true gentleman.

wow.. very impressive. The Great equalizer has spoken again, After Randy Orton Beat Triple H, Triple H was behind him and nailed orton in the head with the sledgehammer, What the Shot! actually I love to see the Springboard splash by Rey Mysterio and I must to watch. Violence are in everywhere plus Action from episodes, WWE is Good Today But Bill Goldberg should to return! Edge And chris jericho then were champs and too now, CM Punk shouldn’t be world champion, He’s bastard and picked victories every match.
