TNA Sacrifice 2009 Recap & Results

Sunday May 24, 2009
Sacrifice is the one night of the year when it is more important not to lose than to win. The main event of the show was a four-man Ultimate Sacrifice Match for the TNA World Championship. In order to get a shot at Mick Foley's championship belt, his opponents had to put something valuable on the line. TNA Founder Jeff Jarrett put his voting shares in the company on the line, Kurt Angle put his role as leader of the Main Event Mafia on the line, and Sting put his career on the line. In addition to the main event, three other titles were on the line as well as the continuation of the feud between the TNA Frontline and the Main Event Mafia.

Samoa Joe vs. Kevin Nash
Samoa Joe finally got his revenge on his former mentor. Joe made a bloody Nash submit to the rear naked choke hold. However, just beating Nash wasn't enough for the Nation of Violence. He continued to beat up Nash and also hit some security guards that tried to stop his post-match assault. Joe went back to beating on Nash. He finally left the ring, staring at Nash and smiling at his handiwork. Scott Steiner came out to check on Nash.

I Quit Match for the Legends Championship: Champion AJ Styles vs. Booker T
While Booker T came out to the ring alone, that didn't last for long. Sharmell made an appearance to root her husband on but was accidentally knocked off the ring apron. AJ put Booker into an arm bar but refused to submit. Jenna Morasco came out and threw in the towel for Booker. After the match, Jenna and Sharmell argued with each other.

Ultimate Sacrifice Match: TNA Champion Mick Foley vs. Jeff Jarret vs. Kurt Angle vs. Sting
This match featured it all including an innovative plan by Foley to retain the title. During the match, he went to the commentary table and did some broadcasting so he could rest while the other men were beating each other up. The zaniness continued as the referee was knocked out and several falls could have occurred but the referee wasn't there to make the count. The ending saw Foley and Sting battling outside of the ring while Angle and Jarrett were inside of the ring. Sting suplexed Foley on the outside. Jarrett hit the stroke on Angle from the 2nd rope onto a steel chair. Sting dove into the ring and covered Angle. As a result of pinning Angle, Sting is the new leader of the Main Event Mafia.

Other Events of Note

  • Following the Monster's Ball Match, Dr. Stevie tried to get Abyss to slam Taylor Wilde into a pile of thumbtacks. Lauren, the girlfriend of Abyss, pleaded with him not to do it. Dr. Stevie pushed Lauren to the mat which infuriated Abyss. Abyss then choke slammed Dr. Stevie into the tacks.
  • As a result of winning the tag team tournament, Robert Roode and James Storm earned a future title shot against TNA Tag Team Champions Team 3D.
