Wrestler's Rescue
I am excited to report that a bunch of pro wrestlers have gotten together and decided to help their former colleagues. Wrestler's Rescue, founded by Dawn Marie, is an organization that has a three-part mission statement. Their first mission is to create awareness and raise funds. The second mission is to put into place a financial advisory to educate wrestlers about planning for their future. The final mission is to set in place a health care program that can be bought into at a group rate so that the community can afford care for themselves and their families. As wrestling fans have witnessed over the years, many former wrestlers have had a difficult time adjusting to life outside of the ring. Hopefully the combination of this organization along with the WWE offering their former talents free drug rehab will give former wrestlers a security blanket that they have never had before. This might help the epidemics of wrestler's dying very young, many dying virtually penniless, and many wrestlers being forced to stay in the ring way past their primes just so they can pay the bills because they had no idea what to do with their money when they were younger.
The organization's first fundraiser will be taking place on Sunday in Piscataway, NJ. There will be a wrestling convention event in the afternoon followed by a dinner at night. These events will feature several dozen entertainers from the wrestling world and other forms of entertainment. Just a few of the stars scheduled to attend include Torrie Wilson, Mick Foley, and Ashley Massaro. For more information about both of these events, the organization, and donation opportunities, make sure to check out the Wrestler's Rescue website.
