Review of The Life & Legacy of Frank Gotch

Thursday August 28, 2008
As we get ready to celebrate Labor Day, now would be a great time to turn the time machine back to Labor Day Weekend 1911. That weekend saw the championship rematch between Frank Gotch and George Hackenschmidt, the man he beat three years earlier in the first recognized world title change. This match, won by Gotch, took place at the year-old Comiskey Park in Chicago. The match drew an estimated 30,000 fans. That record stood for decades. By comparison, SuperClash, a 1985 event that featured the NWA and AWA team up together at the height of a wrestling boom, drew slightly over 20,000 to the same stadium. This book takes a look back at Frank's life, his feud with George Hackenschmidt, and wrestling from that era.
