John Cena Needs Neck Surgery

Monday August 25, 2008
John Cena has suffered a herniated disc in his neck that will keep him out of action indefinitely. It was announced on Monday Night RAW that John received the injury as a result of the Batista Bomb he received at the hands of Batista at SummerSlam. Using past WWE neck surgeries as a guide, it usually takes at least a year for a wrestler to return to action. However, those surgeries were for broken necks, while John's surgery will be for a herniated disc. The good news for John is that there is a history of wrestlers returning to the ring after neck surgery and going on to win championship gold in the WWE. Kurt Angle, Edge, and Chris Benoit are three recent examples of this.

Last year, John only missed a few months of action when he suffered a torn pectoral muscle despite it usually taking much longer for that type of injury to heal. During his recovery from that injury, he started filming a movie called 12 Rounds. According to imdb.com, that movie is set to be released on March 19, 2009. My best wishes go out to John and I hope that he can have a speedy recovery like he had with the torn pectoral muscle.
