Great American Bash 2008 DVD Review

Last week, WWE Home Video released Great American Bash 2008 on DVD. In addition to the two world title matches, this event will best be remembered for the NYC Parking Lot Brawl between John Cena and JBL and for Shawn Michaels suffering his "career ending injury".

What I Said Then: Watching wrestling on TV is great but watching it in-person is much better. This was one of the liveliest and most vocal crowds I have ever been a part of. Even when the crowd had to watch most of the Parking Lot Brawl on TV, they were still very vocal and into the match. I'm looking forward to watching this event on DVD to see if the cameras were able to pick up the excitement that permeated throughout the arena all night. I really enjoyed this show.

Has My Opinion Changed?: Slightly. Usually when I review these DVDs, I have seen the original telecast of the show. In the case of this DVD, since I was at the arena, I never got to see the telecast of the event. Unfortunately, the excitement that I mentioned in the crowd didn't translate well to the TV. However, this does reaffirm my statement that watching wrestling on TV is great but watching it in-person is much better.

Overall Recommendation: While it is definitely worth a rental, I'm 50/50 on recommending purchasing it. There was nothing horrible on the show, yet it is also a very forgettable show. The show was an enjoyable way to spend three hours, I just don't know if this is a DVD that you will want to watch more than once though.
