CM Punk Wins the World Heavyweight Championship

Monday June 30, 2008
CM Punk made history on the June 30 edition of Monday Night RAW when he cashed in his Money in the Bank title shot and earned championship gold. Edge, a wrestler on the SmackDown brand, appeared on RAW to gloat about how RAW had no champion and no one from RAW would ever get a title shot. Batista, fuming about what happened to him at Night of Champions, came out and gave Edge a brutal beat down.

When Edge was nearly unconscious in the ring, CM Punk's music hit and he entered the ring with a referee. He handed the referee his briefcase which contained the Money in the Bank title shot and the match started. Punk hit the Go To Sleep on Edge to win the title and bring a world championship back to RAW.

The irony of this situation is that Edge has used the Money in the Bank title shot twice to easily win championship gold against a beat down champion. The holder of the Money in the Bank title shot is now 4-for-4 when cashing it in. Rob Van Dam is the other holder of the Money in the Bank title shot that won championship gold when he cashed it in.
