Sunday June 29, 2008
WWE Tag Team Championship: Champions The Miz & John Morrison vs. Finlay & Hornswoggle - When Hornswoggle went to the top rope for the tadpole splash, he was caught by Morrison who slammed him off the top rope and pinned him to get the win for his team. Winners: The Miz & John Morrison

U.S. Title: Champion Matt Hardy vs. Chavo Guerrero - Chavo was able to complete the first two of the three amigos but when he tried for the third suplex Matt reversed it and hit the Twist of Fate to get the win. Winner: Matt Hardy

- A video featuring Vince McMahon’s accident was shown. For those that missed it, on Monday night the Million Dollar Mania set collapsed on Vince. The McMahon family will issue a statement tomorrow night about the accident.

ECW Championship: Champion Kane vs. Big Show vs. Mark Henry - After Kane and the Big Show hit a double choke slam on Mark Henry, the two giants went to work on each other for the next few minutes. Kane hit Big Show with a superplex but as he was on his back, Mark Henry hit a splash and pinned the champion to win the title. Winner and new champion: Mark Henry

World Tag Team Championship: Champs Hardcore Holly & Cody Rhodes vs. Ted DiBiase & ??? - Ted claimed that his partner just texted him and said that he was running late. He asked the ref to start the match as a handicap match and promised that his partner would show up soon. Before the match started, Cody attacked his partner and was announced as Ted’s partner. DiBiase put Hardcore Holly in the Million Dollar Dream and then pinned Holly to win the title. Winners and new champions: Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes

- JBL is in his personal luxury box and is angered that he is not a part of this event. He then starts insulting Dallas and says that the city has had no champions since he moved to the city of champions, New York. He then starts talking about how the Giants beat the Cowboys in the playoffs.

Intercontinental Championship: Champion Chris Jericho vs. ??? - Chris came to the ring with Lance Cade. Chris will be facing a surprise opponent tonight because he injured Shawn Michaels. His opponent turned out to be Kofi Kingston. Chris appeared to be about to win the match when he had the youngster trapped in the Walls of Jericho. However, Shawn Michaels came out through the crowd and gave Lance Cade a super kick. A distracted Jericho released the hold only to be hit by Kofi’s trouble in paradise. Kofi pinned Jericho to win the title. However, the celebratory mood of the crowd was short-lived as Shawn needed medical assistance after he was knocked off the ring apron. Jericho had no sympathy for Shawn and hit him with a punch right in his injured eye. Winner and new champion: Kofi Kingston

Women's Championship: Champion Mickie James vs. Katie Lea Burchill - Katie spent the majority of the match working over the left arm of Mickie James. Even with only one arm, Mickie was able to retain the title when she hit the DDT on Katie. Winner: Mickie James

World Heavyweight Championship: Champion Edge vs. Batista - When the referee was about to make the three-count on Edge, SmackDown GM Vickie Guerrero got out of her wheel chair and pulled the referee out of the ring. A few moments later, Edge purposely knocked the referee out. Vickie then called for a new referee which turned out to be Chavo Guerrero. Batista grabbed Vickie and tossed her out of the ring onto La Familia. When he turned around, Edge whacked Batista in the head with the title belt. Chavo, the best man at the upcoming wedding between Edge and Vickie, got into the ring and made the three-count. Winner: Edge

WWE Championship: Champion Triple H vs. John Cena - Mid-way through the match, Triple H injured his knee when he thrown over the top rope. The ending of the match saw Triple H break the STFU and reverse it into a cross face. Cena broke the cross face by picking up Triple H in a position to give him the FU. Triple H got out of it and hit the pedigree to win the match. Winner: Triple H

What does this event mean for the future?
Due to the results of tonight’s show, SmackDown is in possession of the two biggest belts in the WWE. This should make for an interesting few months on both RAW and SmackDown. Can Triple H and Edge exist on the same brand with two titles of equal value? How will the RAW wrestlers get a main title belt back on their show?

Overall Thoughts
Boring and not worth $40. Nothing that happened before the two big title matches was very good and the two main events both had horrible starts for the first-half of their matches. As weird as it may seem, the battle royal at the end of RAW this week had more of a big match feeling than anything on this show.
Last year, I thought that this was the worst event of the year and this show has a chance to repeat that dubious honor. It might just be the whole Night of Champions theme. Titles that are not usually defended on PPV were up for grabs tonight and the apathy of the fans during those matches was amazing.
