Which 5 Wrestlers Should Change Brands at the Draft?

Thursday June 19, 2008
Monday night's edition of RAW will be a three-hour special featuring both the draft and Mr. McMahon giving away another million dollars to the fans. Before I talk about the draft, I'd like to remind everyone that the contest is a week-to-week affair and that you have to register this week in order to win the money regardless of whether or not you registered in prior weeks.

As far as the draft goes, despite having a relatively short history, it has had quite a few different formats. The WWE has not announced how they are doing it this year. Regardless of how they do it, I have compiled a list of five wrestlers that would benefit form switching brands. Please note that for the purposes of this exercise that I am considering ECW and SmackDown as the same brand because of the "talent exchange program" that has resulted in wrestlers appearing on both of those shows on a seemingly random basis.

Mr. Kennedy
A year ago, he was part of the SmackDown brand, had a competitive feud against the Undertaker, won the Money in the Bank, and looked to be having a breakout year. Then he was drafted to RAW and the wheels fell off of his career. He went from being on the cusp of the main event to feuding with Paul Burchill and William Regal. He hasn't wrestled on PPV since WrestleMania. He has gotten lost in the shuffle on RAW and a move to SmackDown is needed for him. If he moves, there is a ready-made feud for him with Edge because of the way he stole the Money in the Bank title shot from him last year.

Umaga
Vince McMahon mentioned this possibility during a stockholder's conference a few weeks back. It makes sense. He is now in the role Kane had a few years ago. Remember when Kane was always the surprise opponent announced by Eric Bischoff on RAW and Kane would seemingly always lose the match. That is what Umaga has been in recent months for William Regal and now for Vince McMahon.

Beth Phoenix
The Glamazon has done as much as possible on RAW and her domination has run its course. A move to SmackDown will give the soon-to-be created Divas title an immediate boost of credibility. Possible feuds between Beth, Victoria, and Natalya would give some credibility to the Women's division of SmackDown which has always had the perception of being the brand with the good looking women that can't wrestle.

Batista
This is a strange one when you consider that he will be in a main event PPV match against the World Heavyweight Champion a few days after the draft. There is no doubt that Edge and the Undertaker will be resuming their feud once the Undertaker's banishment ends. That leaves Batista with no one to fight on the brand. Here is a fact for you to sink your teeth into; he has yet to have a one-on-one PPV match against another member of the SmackDown roster this year.

JBL
Since returning to the ring this winter, he has already feuded with Chris Jericho and John Cena. RAW ended this week with Lance Cade interfering in the main event. This was the spot I would have thought would have been perfect for JBL but it appears that a younger Texan has moved into that upper mid-card/flirting with the main event spot. A JBL return to SmackDown would be both a return to where he had his greatest glory and it would also give SmackDown a legitimate main event heel that they are sorely in need of because only having one main event heel on the roster (Edge) is a recipe for disaster in case of an injury.

Does Mark Henry need to move to Raw to avoid any backlash from Michael Hayes? I would hate to see him be punished for speaking out against his racist remarks.

I hope Brian Kendrick and Paul London are moved. They were great on SmackDown! and haven’t had a chance to do anything on Raw.

As much as I don’t want to say it, Kennedy, my personal favorite, needs a move back, and a gigantic super-push, now that’s he’s face, against Edge. Just like Eric said. And Cryme Tyme needs something, RAW isn’t doing a thing. And yes, please move Beth Phoenix, I always DVR SmackDown and ECW, so I can just skip her matches. :D (New Diva title sounds boring to me, sorry)

vicki guerrero needs to have the general managers position taken away from her. she has went to far with some of her decisions.
