WrestleMania XXIV DVD Review

Saturday May 17, 2008
On Tuesday, the WWE will be releasing WrestleMania XXIV on both DVD and Blu-ray. The DVD release is a 3-disc set while the Blu-ray release is a 2-disc set. Both sets include the same items and clock in at around 8 hours.

While watching the DVD, I ran into a technical problem that I have never seen before. I write about the problem at the end of the review and request that any reader that knows what the cause of the issue is to please post a comment at the end of this blog.

Eric,

I believe the issue with the DVD is that it is coded to automatically play in HD mode if available, and the superimposed WWE HD is on the top “layer” of the screen. Basically if you play the dvd on SDTV that top layer does not show. You probably have a setting you could change in your computer program that is playing the disc to not play in HD if you didn’t want to (it probably wouldn’t look quite as pretty though) under your playback options.

Thanks for the info Greg. It looks like that is going to be the trend for the future PPV releases. I just got a review copy of the Backlash PPV and the same thing happened again.

Just a few extra minutes of the Hall of Fame? So it’s not the full ceremony as was previously stated in many places?

(4) Eric Cohen says:

Hi Jason,

It is the entire ceremony. However, between the USA HOF special & wwe.com, most of the footage has already been seen. The USA special featured the Rock & Flair segments and wwe.com streamed and had on the site for a while the non-Rock & non-Flair segments. The only things not shown on USA or wwe.com were a few minutes of the Rock & Flair segments.

Thanks,
Eric

Hey, the site makeover is live! Looks good!

I’m glad to hear that. I didn’t see the USA or WWE.com shows, but from what I understood both Rock and Flair had a lot cut from the broadcast. Apparently Flair went on for something like an hour and a half! No complaints from me, though.

Rev Theory & the RHCP WM theme songs are on the DVD. I didn’t notice any music overdubs on the DVD.

By chance, can you identify the song on the DVD that plays during main menus? Thx.

(9) Eric says:

The song is Snow (Hey Oh) by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. It is on their Stadium Arcadium album.

Here is a link to the song:
