WWE First Quarter 2008 Financials
Earlier this week, the WWE announced their first quarter results. The buys for WrestleMania this year decreased from approximately 1.2 million buys to 1.06 million buys. During the investor conference call, the WWE admitted that Floyd Mayweather Jr. did not get $20 million for his battle with the Big Show. For further information about the financial health of the WWE, you can check out the quarterly report on their corporate website.

Vince McMahon Talks at the Annual Shareholder’s Meeting
Vince McMahon spoke to WWE shareholders for over an hour this week. The first few meeting of the meeting saw Linda take care of some corporate business but then things got interesting once Vince took the microphone. Vince spoke for a while about some of their future goals as a company (become less McMahon-based as a company) and that one of the key things they learned this year was that they had to become more media savvy. Vince then took questions from some shareholders and it was a very interesting Q&A session. The most intriguing item Vince brought up is that their premiere on MyNetwork TV will be an hour-long look back at WrestleMania XXIV that will feature little commentary and that the wrestling action will feature a score. Some other key points mentioned are that the Tribute to the Troops show will move from USA Network to NBC and that with the exception of New York City (Madison Square Garden), every future WrestleMania will be hosted in a stadium environment. Video of this meeting can be seen on the corporate section of wwe.com as well as the 2007 Annual Report.

Two Future Wrestling Related Reality TV Shows Announced This Week
According to Variety.com, SpikeTV has signed Kurt Angle to be the host of Caught in the Action, a hidden-camera show. Hulk Hogan is going to be part of a new show on CMT this fall. Entitled Hulk Hogan’s Celebrity Championship Wrestling, the eight episode show will follow 10 celebrities compete for the right to be crowned Celebrity All-Star Wrestling Champion. The show is being produced through Bischoff-Hervey Entertainment. Eric Bischoff is the former President of World Championship Wrestling.
