Benoit Tragedy Update

Saturday February 16, 2008
Earlier this week, the Fayette County Sheriff's Office ended their investigation of the Benoit family tragedy. They have found that Chris acted alone and that the incident was a double-murder suicide. They also released some information that might finally provide some insight as to the events that led to this the horrific tragedy.

Based upon the details in the police report, the Atlanta Journal Constitution has written that Nancy may have been trying to leave Chris. Their article goes on to say that Nancy suspected that Chris was having an affair with a WWE Diva, Chris had bedroom performance issues due to his steroid use, there were arguments about the insurance policies of Chris's children, and that she left instructions with a neighbor to have Chris investigated if anything should happen to hear.

The Fayette Daily News has a time line of telephone action from the house that weekend. Phone records have shown that 411 directory assistance was called from the home the night Nancy was murdered. The requested number was for the police department. After that call was made, two calls were made from the house to Nancy's neighbor at around 9:30 PM, right around the time of her death. The next day, Chris called Delta airlines to get a later flight to get to his wrestling match.

What does this all mean?
This report hurts the lawsuit the family has planned against the WWE which blames his actions on head trauma that he experienced in the ring. Even before this report, that would have been a very hard case to prove but this report pretty much determines that there was a domestic dispute that went wrong. Based on the events going on in his life, he did not act like a delusional man in his '80s with Alzheimer's. In the days prior to and during the incident, he was able to remember all the moves in a wrestling match, deliver a speech on TV, navigated his way through an airport, changed tickets for an airline flight, and went to a doctor's appointment by himself. Most people in their '80s with Alzheimer's are unable to do any of those things.

This isn't the only recent bad news the family has had over the past few weeks. Their attempt to stop Hustler from publishing nude photos of Nancy was denied by U.S. District Court Judge Thomas Thrash. By the time the decision was made, the magazine was already published and distributed.

To be honest Benoit was one of my top favourites in the WWE, and now after this tragic double murder suicide I can’t even watch any of his matches anymore. I have all of 2006 and 2007 wwe ppv dvd’s and most of them had him in it. Shocking I still think about it every week sort of. Its just dispeciable, But its a good thing WWE is learning a lesson about steroid use, as they went on to be more strict over their superstars, i mean they had to suspend 10 of them this past fall, and as long as the Wellness Policy works out, we’ll probably be hearing less problems than before.
Despite what happened Chris Benoit is and will always be, one of the greatest, as he has made a name for himself for years, especially when he won the World Title at Wrestlemania 20.

I love Benoit and “Woman” was a great character. I will also feel a great loss and he and Nancy are missed
