Royal Rumble Predictions

Thursday January 24, 2008
This Sunday night, the WWE presents the Royal Rumble. My predictions for the event are listed below and in the order that I believe the matches will take place. In addition to telling you who I think will win the matches, I’m going to explain why. Since this show will determine one of the main events of WrestleMania 24, I'm going to try and predict some of the events that will be taking place at that show. Feel free to let me know what you think will happen at this show and what we will be seeing at WrestleMania 24 by clicking on the comments link below.

Ric Flair's Career on the Line: Ric Flair vs. MVP - I refuse to believe that Ric Flair's career will end here. It will last until WrestleMania 24. The big question in this Flair angle is who will be the man to retire Flair at that show? In a perfect world, it would be cool to see Sting come into the WWE for that one match. His contract with TNA is rumored to have expired and it has not been officially announced that he has resigned with them. If Sting isn't the man to end his career then I'm clueless as to who it will be. As far as MVP goes, I'm predicting that if Matt Hardy is medically cleared to wrestle at WrestleMania 24 then we will finally see the one-on-one match between the two men that injuries to both men has caused to be delayed for so many months. Predicted Winner: Ric Flair

Chris Jericho vs. JBL - Both men have recently come out of retirement. Due to the anger that Jericho has at JBL for "making this feud personal", he will be so angry that he will throw the rulebook away and cost himself the match. Predicted Winner: JBL by DQ

World Heavyweight Championship: Champion Edge vs. Rey Mysterio - There is no doubt in my mind that Edge retains the title here and I'd be willing to bet that his potential in-law, the new ECW Champion Chavo Guerrero, will help him retain the title. I'm predicting that Edge will be defending the title against the Undertaker at WrestleMania 24. With 21 combined WrestleMania matches between the two men and neither one ever being pinned or forced to submit, this is an easy sell for a WrestleMania main event. Predicted Winner: Edge

WWE Championship Match: Champion Randy Orton vs. Jeff Hardy - A month ago I would have easily said that Randy would keep the title and battle Triple H at WrestleMania 24. However, over the past month, Jeff's career has caught fire at a rate I have never seen before. The crowd was dead for him when he earned this title shot at Armageddon yet he now has the crowd eating out of his hands. He has taken advantage of his opportunity and has impressed everyone with his move off of the top of the cage against Umaga and his leap off the RAW last week. The time is now to give Jeff a chance with the title and if it doesn't work out there are still over two months worth of RAW and a PPV event to take the title off of him. Predicted Winner: Jeff Hardy

The Royal Rumble - As I previously mentioned, the SmackDown main event of WrestleMania looks like it will be the Undertaker vs. Edge. Back-to-back Rumble victories for the "dead man" will add even more aura to his impressive 15-0 WrestleMania record as he heads to his battle with Edge. The RAW main event scene looks a bit more convoluted and I believe that will be settled in the much rumored Elimination Chamber Match that will probably be taking place at No Way Out. Predicted Winner: The Undertaker

It’s possible that Flair may not lose at WM, and just ride off into the sunset. On the other hand, if Taker does not win the Rumble, he will be somewhere near the top of the card, and Flair-Taker would be a terrific way to pass the torch.
