Has Lashley Quit the WWE?

By January 23, 2008

Follow me on:

The following was posted on the forum of Bobby Lashley's official website and was written by Lashley himself:

"Circumstances which are out of my control left me no decision but to leave the WWE. I can't go into details of this now but like I said before sometimes people will hate you personally and try to destroy you which has happened here. Evil has prevailed however like I said before if you continue your struggle doors will open around these people. You have not scene the last of me so please don't stop your support. Add Bobby Lashley to the list of RECENTLY RELEASED!"

Is This Legitimate?
A post later on the forum by his webmistress states that this is real. An email sent to her has not been returned. Since this is wrestling, there is always a possibility that this is part of some angle.

What Happened?
Just a year ago, things looked great for Lashley's future in the WWE as he was a part of one of the biggest angles in WWE history when he had to defend the hair of Donald Trump. How did things get so bad so quickly?

We do know that Lashley was injured during the spring but gutted through his injury until the summer. He has been out of action since then but was due to return to the ring shortly. A few months ago, his girlfriend, Kristal, was released from the company.

These two known facts are a double whammy when it comes to a wrestler staying with the company. When a WWE wrestler is injured, they only make the down-side of the contract and for a top wrestler like Lashley his income has to have taken a severe hit. There is a history of wrestlers being very angry about their situation when they sit out due to injury and if a champion like Batista was so angry about his treatment that he wrote about it in his autobiography, I can only imagine how Lashley must have been impacted by this.

The other kiss of death for a WWE career is when their significant other leaves the company. Two recent examples are Jerry Lawler quitting immediately when his wife was fired from the company and Sable being released shortly after Brock Lesnar left the WWE.

What's Next?
Nothing is official until it is posted on the WWE website. If this post is legitimate then I would expect some legal things to go on the next few days before anything is posted on their site. If not, this is a great angle to bring Lashley back with.

If Lashley is really done with the WWE then what are his options? As far as his wrestling career goes, his two best options are TNA and Japan. The money would be much better in Japan but the lifestyle would be much easier in TNA. Just like Brock Lesnar, a move to UFC is also a possibility. He is a former NAIA wrestling champion and would be a star attraction for that company.
