Review of The Triumph & Tragedy of World Class Championship Wrestling

Tuesday December 18, 2007
Longtime readers of this site know that my favorite wrestler of all-time is Ric Flair. For the first time, I will reveal my favorite tag team of all-time. It was the Fabulous Freebirds. The actions of the Freebirds during a Ric Flair match caused a local promotion to become world famous and was the start of one of the greatest feuds in the wrestling business. However, the success of being the number one wrestling promotion in the world was very short-lived as perhaps the saddest chapter in wrestling history soon occurred. This two-disc DVD set takes a look back at both the good and the bad times of the company.

My first exposure to the company came in the mid-'80s, when the glory days were right about to end for the company. But through the magical powers of cable and syndication, I was able to watch the growth and decline of the company at the same time. Every week, I got to see both a new episode of the company that featured the company declining right before my eyes and a classic episode called Legends of World Class Championship Wrestling that featured action from a few years prior. That era of wrestling, WCCW from '83 - '85, is one of my favorites eras in the history of the industry.
