Survivor Series 2007 Recap

Sunday November 18, 2007
Who survived the Hell in a Cell? Could Shawn win a match without the aid of his finishing maneuver? What former champion made his return tonight?

ECW Title: Champion CM Punk vs. John Morrison vs. The Miz - The newly crowned tag team champions started off as allies but their friendship quickly ended as this match was every man for himself. Morrison got knocked off the ring apron by the Miz who then walked into Punk’s Go to Sleep. Winner: CM Punk

- MVP brags in an interview that Matt Hardy will not compete tonight due to the leg injury he inflicted on him Friday night.

Women's Champion Beth Phoenix, Jillian Hall, Melina, Victoria, & Layla vs. Mickie James, Maria, Torrie Wilson, Michelle McCool, & Kelly Kelly - On her way into the ring, Melina messed up her ring entrance. That was an omen for things to come. A few minutes into this match, I had to put the Patriots game on. A special thank you goes out to the person that invented the picture in picture function. Mickie won the match for her team when she hit Melina with the kiss/kick combo. Winners: Mickie James, Maria, Torrie Wilson, Michelle McCool, & Kelly Kelly

World Tag Team Championship: Champs Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch vs. Cody Rhodes & Hardcore Holly - While Cade and Holly were outside of the ring, Murdoch hit his standing sunset flip on Rhodes to win the match for his team. Winners: Cade and Murdoch

- Triple H’s team is interviewed. Kane brings up the infamous Katie Vick incident (Triple H having simulated sex with a mannequin he claimed was Kane’s ex-girlfriend that he murdered in a car crash many years earlier) and Jeff brings up that Triple H once put him in the hospital.

Traditional Survivor Series Match: Triple H, Jeff Hardy , Rey Mysterio & Kane vs. Umaga, Mr. Kennedy, MVP, Finlay & Big Daddy V - Due to Matt Hardy’s injury, Triple H’s team starts the match at a 5-4 disadvantage. Big Daddy V eliminated Kane with the Samoan Drop followed by an elbow drop (5-3). Umaga eliminated Rey with the Samoan Spike (5-2). Jeff eliminated MVP with the twist of fate (4-2). Triple H eliminated Kennedy due to Big Daddy V accidentally elbow dropping his partner (3-2). Big Daddy V was eliminated after being hit by a double-DDT (2-2). Triple H hit the pedigree to eliminate Finlay (1-2). Umaga was eliminated with a pedigree/swanton bomb combo. Survivors: Triple H & Jeff Hardy

The Great Khali vs. Hornswoggle - Shane McMahon comes out to introduce his father and brother. The crowd starts a “We want Shaq” chant because he is in the first row. Vince points at Shaq and then tells the crowd to shut up because he doesn’t care what they want. After several minutes of stalling, Khali hit Hornswoggle and was about to put him in the vice grip when Finlay came out to save his leprechaun from the giant. He used his shillelagh on the giant and got Hornswoggle to safety. Winner: Great Khali by DQ

WWE Championship: Champion Randy Orton vs. Shawn Michaels - If Shawn uses the Sweet Chin Music he will be disqualified and never be allowed to face Orton for the title again. If Orton is disqualified he will lose the title. Without the Sweet Chin Music, Shawn used a variety of submission holds that haven’t been seen in the WWE for some time because of their associations with other wrestlers. Orton escaped from a sharpshooter (Bret Hart), cross face (Benoit), and the ankle lock (Kurt Angle). Michaels had Orton set up for the Sweet Chin Music and almost did it. When he realized what he was doing, he hesistated and that allowed Orton the opportunity to hit the RKO to get the win. After the match, Orton tried to humiliate Michaels but since the match was over, Shawn hit him the Sweet Chin Music. Winner: Randy Orton

Hell in a Cell Match for the World Heavyweight Championship: Champion Batista vs. The Undertaker - This was a violent and bloody affair that the Undertaker seemed to be about to win when he hit the tombstone on the ring steps. However, the referee was pulled out of the ring. The culprit was Edge who was hiding in the structure the whole time. He pummeled the Undertaker and placed the unconscious Batista on top of him. Winner: Batista

What does this event mean for the future?
On Raw, it appears that Randy Orton is done with Shawn Michaels. The question is whether his next challenger will be Triple H or the man that will be revealed tomorrow night. Tomorrow night, we will find out who the “Save Us 222” videos have been for.

On SmackDown, nothing has been settled between Batista and the Undertaker. Their feud now has a new person involved in it. There is no doubt that Edge is looking to reclaim the title that he was forced to vacate due to an injury.

Overall Thoughts
The three big matches (Hell in a Cell, WWE Championship, & Survivor Series Match) made this event well worth the purchase price.

I am regular viewer of pro wrestling. At the same time wrestling disturbs my understanding. Much of the wrestling action is violent and dreadful. Could I know if the wrestling actions and scenes are a reality or are fictious? Are they in any way merely acted and interpreted to be real?
