Random Body Slams
Does CNN have an ounce of integrity or is their vendetta against the WWE still going on despite WCW going out of business six years ago? Which former Intercontinental Champion legally changed their name to their stage name this week and then challenged Vince McMahon to a fight? What evidence might prove Nick Hogan’s innocence? In light of last week’s Wellness Policy suspensions, can you guess who was released from their WWE Contract? How will the Hollywood writer’s strike impact wrestling? What former World Champion in both the WWE and WCW was named as Sting’s mystery tag team partner at Genesis and who wound up leaving the show as the TNA World Champion?
Death Grip or as I Like to Call It The Death of CNN’s Credibility
Last week, CNN aired a documentary about the problems in wrestling entitled Death Grip. Since the death of Chris Benoit, wrestling fans have been watching in stunned disbelief as the major media outlets continued to get the easiest facts wrong about the case. After watching the show, I felt that this time the reporting was fairly accurate and was impressed that CNN had even posted a must-read transcript of Vince and Linda McMahon’s interview featuring a lot of information that was not on the show.
However, once the truth was revealed about the show, a wave of anger sweeped over me. Unlike the pathetic media reports that have been going on since the death of Chris Benoit that have just been inaccurate, this one attempted to destroy the credibility of an innocent man.
Without a doubt, the number one star in the WWE today is John Cena. In an attempt to make him look really bad, CNN poorly edited what he said to make it appear that he took steroids. Thankfully the WWE recorded the unedited interview and posted it on their website.
I can only say that I am both shocked and disgusted by this horrendous form of “journalism”. I have to wonder if Time Warner, the parent company of CNN, is still harboring anger with the WWE because Vince won the wrestling war against WCW, a former Time Warner Company. I also don’t think that it is a coincidence that Time Warner is the only major cable operator not to offer their viewers the WWE 24/7 channel.
Joanie Laurer Chyna Challenges Vince McMahon
Taking a page from Warrior, Joanie Laurer has legally changed her name to Chyna. In an interview on TMZ.com, she had some fighting words for Vince McMahon: “Would I like to go back for one day representing myself and all these people to kick you’re a** and you’re a** only? Cause you are the boss, right Vince? Then I would love to do it. You know my number. You know where I live, obviously. And you know my name. Bring it, Vince!"
Hogan’s Lawyer Has Proof that Nick Hogan Wasn’t Racing
Earlier this week, Nick Hogan was arrested for an auto mobile accident he was in. The police report alleges that he was racing at the time of the accident. TMZ.com has obtained a surveillance camera footage that might just save Nick Hogan from some serious jail time. The footage clearly shows that Nick and the car he was racing against were stopped at a red light moments before the accident. One of the problems with the video is that it does not give an excuse (and there is never a good excuse) for the alcohol that was found in Nick’s system. I’m just curious what the blood alcohol content of the eye witnesses were when they gave their reports to the police?
Chris Masters Released
After getting suspended for the second time in a few weeks for Wellness Policy violations, Chris Masters has been released from his contract. While on the topic of releases, two Divas, Kristal and Brooke, were recently released from their contracts as well. This isn’t much of a shock because every year at this time, the WWE is flooded with new Divas due to the Diva Search Contest.
The Hollywood Strike and Wrestling
The good news is that the wrestling programs will not be affected by the strike due to the fact that wrestling’s real the writers in TNA and the WWE are not unionized. If the strike goes on for a while, it is possible that there will be more wrestling on TV as the networks scramble to find programming for their networks.
In other news related to the strike, reality programming is not affected by the strike so American Gladiators, hosted by Hulk Hogan, will not be shut down by the strike. Unfortunately, the Rock has been affected by the strike. He was supposed to host the November 10 edition of Saturday Night Live as part of the promotion for the release of Southland Tales on Wednesday.
TNA: Genesis Recap & Results
The main event of this show featured the NWA World Championship up for grabs in a tag team match. The partner of World Champion Kurt Angle was Kevin Nash, a man that hasn't wrestled in over a year. Sting's mystery partner was Booker T. Booker T and his wife Sharmell, who was at his side during the match, were released from their WWE contracts a few weeks ago and even appeared on the WWE episodes of Family Feud that aired last week. The match ended with Kurt Angle retaining the title by pinning Sting.
