John Cena's Reality TV Show Premiers on Thursday

By June 6, 2007

John Cena will be in a new reality TV show that premiers on Thursday night. Fast Cars & Superstars will premiers on ABC on Thursday night at 8:00 P.M. The show features six NASCAR drivers teaching a dozen celebrities how to drive a NASCAR automobile. The show will consist of six half-hour episodes and will end with an hour-long finale race. The show is scheduled to air before each game of the NBA finals. For more information about the divers and contestants, make sure to read this article by Steve McCormick, the About.com guide to NASCAR.

For those wondering, World Wrestling Entertainment has a relationship with NASCAR. They are a minor sponsor of Jeremy Mayfield's #36 car. The major sponsor of that car is 360 OTC, the company that was also the sponsor of WrestleMania 23. The WWE logo can be found on the side of the car after the rear windows and on right side of Jeremy's jacket.

As far as John Cena goes, this is his second reality TV show. Prior to entering the WWE, he was a part of a rigged reality TV show called Manhunt.

I have one nightmare about this series. As wrestling fans know, after he appeared in The Marine, his gimmick changed to reflect the movie. I just hope that he doesn't undergo a similar NASCAR makeover. Back in 1994, there was a wrestler whose gimmick was that he was a former race car driver. That former driver, "Sparky" Thurman Plugg drove right into the winner's circle of Wrestlecrap (a website dedicated to the worst ideas in the history of wrestling). Amazingly, Sparky is still in the WWE. However, now he is known as Hardcore Holly.
