Bound for Glory Recap

Sunday October 22, 2006
Is Sting the new NWA World Champion or was his career ended by Jeff Jarrett? What happened between Samoa Joe and Kurt Angle? Who walked out of the six sides of steel as the NWA Tag Team Champions?

Bobby Roode vs Lance Hoyt - Roode’s search for a new manager has ended. After months of being wooed by the likes of Bobby Heenan and Sherri Martel, he chose Traci Brooks to be his new manager. He also now wants to be known as Robert Roode and all he cares about now is money. He beat Hoyt who has not won a PPV match since March. After the match, Roode and Brooks tried to humiliate Lance but his tag team partner Ron Killings came out to make the save. Killings is a former NWA World Champion that was in the main event a few months ago and now can’t even make it onto the biggest show of the year. Winner: Robert Roode

- Samoa Joe and Kurt Angle tried to fight each other in the parking lot but security made sure that they didn’t.

The Kevin Nash Open Invitational X Division Gauntlet Battle Royal - The rules of the match are that it starts off with two men in the ring and then every minute a new person will enter the ring. Wrestlers are eliminated from the match by being thrown over the top rope except for the end where a wrestler can also win by pin fall or submission. The order of entry for the match was: Austin Starr, Sonjay Dutt, Matt Bentley, Jay Lethal, A1, Zach Gowen, Kazarian, Sirelda, Shark Boy, Alex Shelley, D-RAY 3000, Johnny Devine, Elix Skipper, Short Sleeve Sampson, Norman Smiley, Slick Johnson, and Petey Williams. The last two men in the ring were Austin Starr and Jay Lethal. Starr hit a brain buster on Lethal to get the win and the trophy. Winner: Austin Starr

America's Most Wanted vs The Naturals vs The James Gang vs Team 3D - While AMW and the James Gang were brawling outside of the ring, the Naturals hit the Natural Disaster on D-Von. Andy Douglas then accidentally hit his partner which allowed Team 3D to hit with the 3D to get the win. After the match, Shane Douglas, the manger of the Naturals, ran into the ring and slapped Chase Stevens when he tried to stand up to himself while Douglas was yelling at him. Winners: Team 3D

Monsters Ball Match with special referee Jake "The Snake" Roberts: Samoa Joe vs Raven vs Abyss vs Runt - This brawl featured everything you would have thought including tables and thumbtacks. When Raven was using a chair on Samoa Joe, Jake grabbed it and gave him the DDT. Samoa Joe then pinned Raven after hitting the muscle buster. After the match, Jake put his snake on top of Raven. Winner: Samoa Joe

Loser gets fired: Eric Young vs Larry Zbysko - When the ref is down, Larry tries to use a foreign object. Before he can use it, Eric hits him in the groin and then uses the brass knuckles on Larry to get the win. Winner: Eric Young

- Jim Cornette enters the ring and warns Samoa Joe that if he interferes win the NWA World Title match later tonight he will be removed from the TNA roster immediately. Kurt Angle and Samoa Joe both came out and start brawling until security breaks them up. It was announced a few minutes later that Samoa Joe was ejected from the building.

X Division Championship: Champion Senshi vs Chris Sabin - This was the match that the division needed after the recent Jackass 2 debacle that almost ruined it. Unlike last month’s match, there were no blow up dolls involved. This month, the two men wrestled in true X Division style. There were several near falls and big spots that got the crowd really into this match. Sabin was able to escape the dragon sleeper and rolled up Senshi to get the win. Winner and New Champion: Chris Sabin

8 Mile Street Fight: Rhino vs Christian Cage - This one started in the parking lot and moved backstage. They made it into the arena when Rhino drove the Zamboni with Christian on top of it. The difference in this match was the concussion that Rhino suffered at the hands of Christian last month. Rhino fought through this problem but when he missed the gore, Christian took advantage. After several near falls, Christian piled chairs and a ladder on Rhino and then started to wail on him with another chair. After beating him up with the weapons, Christian got the three-count. Winner: Christian Cage

Six Sides of Steel for the NWA Tag Team Championship: Champs A.J. Styles & Chris Daniels vs The LAX - This was a great steel cage match that featured some great high spots and some incredible brutality. Even though he was locked outside of the ring, that still did not stop Konnan from interfering. He slipped a coat hanger into the ring and later in used that hanger from outside the ring to choke Chris Daniels while the LAX double-teamed A.J. to get the win. Winners and New Champions: The LAX

NWA World Title vs Career - Kurt Angle is special enforcer: Champ Jeff Jarrett vs Sting -After a big collision between Sting and Jarrett, the referee was about to count both men out when Kurt came into the ring and gave the referee an Angle Slam so he wouldn’t be able to stop the match. A few minutes later, Angle stopped Sting from using his bat which allowed Jarrett to use his guitar on Sting. Sting was so pumped up that it barely bothered him and he applied the scorpion death lock to get the submission victory over Jarrett. Winner and New Champion: Sting

What does this event mean for future?
It is very obvious that the next big feud in TNA will be Kurt Angle and Samoa Joe. It also appears that the Jeff Jarrett vs. Sting feud will take some time off as Christian Cage’s victory over Rhino should set him up as the number one contender to the title. In addition, there is still some unfinished business between Sting and Christian Cage that needs to be settled. As far as the tag team scene goes, it appears that the LAX are going to feud with America’s Most Wanted because they injured Gail Kim last week on iMPACT!. What this means for A.J. and Daniels remains to be seen as it appears that they have lost their feud to the LAX.

Overall Thoughts
After a string of so-so to bad PPV events, they hit a home run for their most important show ever. As good as this show was, the more important thing for the company is that next month’s show might even be better. TNA did a great job in building up to their next PPV without taking away from this show.

I think it was let down to have Traci Brooks be Roode’s manager. I was expecting someone big.
