No Surrender Recap

Sunday September 24, 2006
What was the big announcement? Will it rewrite the history of pro wrestling as TNA has suggested it will? Was Samoa Joe able to keep his undefeated streak alive in his battle with the NWA World champion?

Eric Young vs A1 - Just like last month, the show opens with Eric Young battling a former Team Canada teammate. The only difference was that TNA didn’t set the building on fire this time. Winner: Eric Young

- TNA hypes the upcoming announcement that will rewrite wrestling history. Jim Cornette reminds us not to tune out early. Who orders PPV events and shuts them off before the end? Maybe they are warning us because they feel that this show is going to be very bad.

Jay Lethal vs Petey Wiliams - TNA’s attempt to destroy the X Division continued with this match. Prior to the match, Petey was slipped a laxative by his Jackass 2 loving opponent. I guess this is the alternative to wrestling that TNA is. Last week at the WWE PPV event, Vince McMahon had his head shoved up Big Show’s butt. In TNA, they are about trying to not let things fly out of your butt. Maybe Jim Cornette was right about not shutting the event off early. Winner: Jay Lethal

No DQ Match: Abyss vs Raven vs Runt - This was the typical weapons match we have come to expect from the men involved. Abyss hit the black hole slam on Raven to get the win. Winner: Abyss

Triple Chance Eight Team Battle Royal (America’s Most Wanted, the James Gang, The Naturals, the Paparazzi, Diamonds in the Rough, Bentley & Kazarian, Ron Killings and Lance Hoyt, and Shark Boy & Norman Smiley) - The rules of this match stated that a team was eliminated when both members of the team went over the top rope. The last two teams left would battle in a regular tag team match to become the #1 contender’s for the tag team title. Due to the referee being distracted, instead of the finals being the Naturals vs the James Gang, it was the Naturals vs America’s Most Wanted. The James Gang were unhappy with what happened and interfered in the match. Due to their interference, the Naturals are now in line for a title shot at Bound for Glory. In a side note, there was a spot in the beginning of the match where Chase Stevens was thrown off the top rope into the crowd and took out several fans on the way down. If I write about a lawsuit against TNA in the near future, this is where it will stem from. Last month’s TNA PPV had a fire that required a person to be treated at a local hospital. I wish I was a personal injury attorney based out of Orlando. Winners: The Naturals

X Division Title: Champ Senshi vs Chris Sabin - This started off as a really good X Division style match before the Jackass 2 baloney crept in again. Sabin’s friends Sonjay Dutt and Jay Lethal brought an inflatable doll to the ring. The fans started a “This is Stupid” chant. I agree. Senshi overcame the odds and beat Chris Sabin to hold onto the last thread of dignity the title still has left. Winner: Senshi

Christian Cage vs Rhino - The ref kept getting hurt in this grudge match between former best friends. The match ended when Christian hit the Unprettier on a chair. The ref awoke from his slumber in time to make the three-count. Winner: Christian Cage

Ultimate X for the NWA Tag Team Titles: Champs The LAX vs AJ Styles and Chris Daniels - Match of the night. The end saw Chris Daniels do an incredible dive from the top of the X Division structure to the intersecting cables below to grab the tag team titles. Winners and new champions: Chris Daniels & AJ Styles

Non-title Fans Revenge Lumberjack Match: NWA World Champ Jeff Jarrett vs Samoa Joe - Joe was able to kick out of the stroke and hit a muscle buster on the champ to keep his undefeated streak alive. Winner: Samoa Joe

- The big announcement: Jim Cornette entered the ring and announced that starting on November 16, iMPACT! will be starting at 9 P.M. A video was then shown to introduce TNA’s newest star, Kurt Angle.

What does this event mean for future?
When the opening of the pre-show is an ad for next month’s PPV event, TNA let everyone immediately know this was going to just be a show to get to next month’s Bound for Glory PPV. The main event of that show will be Sting vs Jeff Jarrett for the NWA titles. If Sting loses then he must retire.

I did not mention this a few days ago because I did not want to spoil what could have been the big announcement. Every major wrestling website has reported that Vince Russo is the head booker of TNA again.

Overall Thoughts
I don’t know if this show is the end of a rut that TNA has been in or the start of something really bad. It all depends on who was booking this stuff. If the former booking committee was responsible for this show then thankfully their time is done. If the new booking committee was responsible for this garbage then I fear that TNA is going back to the days of the Johnsons and the infamous midget pleasuring himself in a garbage pail incident. As far as this show goes, I would not recommend ordering the replay.

    Match Results:
  • Eric Young beat A1
  • Jay Lethal beat Petey Williams
  • No DQ Match: Abyss beat Raven & Runt
  • Triple Chance Battle Royal: The Naturals beat seven other teams
  • X Division Title: Champ Senshi beat Chris Sabin
  • Christian Cage beat Rhino
  • Tag Team Titles: A.J. Styles & Chris Daniels beat the LAX to regain the titles
  • Fan’s Revenge Match: Samoa Joe beat Jeff Jarrett
