8/21 Monday Night RAW Recap

Monday August 21, 2006
Usually, the episode of Monday Night RAW following a PPV event is the time where new feuds are created or old feuds intensify. In a rare occurrence, both of those things happened in both the McMahon Family vs D-Generation X feud and the John Cena vs Edge feud. The plot twists and new people added to these two feuds highlighted a great night of sports entertainment.

Edge started the night by celebrating his victory last night. He destroyed the title belt associated with John Cena and debuted his new “Rated R” belt. His celebration was short lived as he was immediately challenged by the returning Jeff Hardy. After their match, which Jeff dominated, a very angry John Cena stormed the ring. The brawl between Cena and Edge went from the ring to the Long Island Sound as John Cena forced the champ to take a swim in the water.

The feud between D-Generation X and the McMahon’s continued in spite of D-X overcoming 12 on 2 odds last night. Tonight, D-Generation X spray painted D-X on the Vince McMahon’s two most expensive possessions, his plane and his corporate building. Vince took his frustrations out on Mick Foley. Vince gave Mick the choice of joining the “Kiss my A**” club or he would fire Mick’s friend, Melina. After Mick kissed Vince’s backside, Melina turned on Mick by hitting him in the groin and then she announced that Mick was fired. After feeling good about the way the show ended, Vince and Shane left the arena in better spirits but Vince did say that D-X has him very close to his breaking point. On their way home, D-X booby trapped the McMahon limousine and caused the back axle to fall off the vehicle.

    Match Results:
  • Eugene, Jim Duggan, & the Highlanders beat the Spirit Squad (Johnny/Kenny/Mikey/Nicky)
  • Trish Stratus beat Victoria
  • Non-title Match: Jeff Hardy beat Edge by DQ
  • Intercontinental Title Match: Kane beat Champ Johnny Nitro by DQ
  • Ric Flair beat Randy Orton via reverse decision

Important Non-match Events That Took Place and Weren't Mentioned in the Recap:
  • Carlito and Randy Orton exchanged insults with each other in the backstage interview area. Later in the show, Carlito attacked Randy Orton when Randy was beating up a defenseless Ric Flair.
  • Umaga injured Kane's throat with two Samoan spikes after sneak attacking him during his match against Johnny Nitro.
  • The trailer of John Cena's new movie, The Marine, was shown.
  • Commercials for the Rock's new movie, Gridiron Gang, made their RAW debut.
  • The new Vince McMahon DVD will be released tomorrow.

IMPORTANT PROGRAMMING NOTE: DUE TO THE U.S. OPEN, NEXT WEEK, MONDAY NIGHT RAW WILL BE SHOWN LIVE ON THE SCI FI CHANNEL AND WILL BE SHOWN ON TAPE DELAY ON THE USA NETWORK AT 11. IF YOU LIVE ON THE WEST COAST, YOU CAN IGNORE THIS NOTE.

Hi John,

Thanks for the feedback. The reason for the changes in the recap style comes from my boss. The new style is a still a work in progress which will be determined by several factors, including feedback like yours.

Eric
