The History of SummerSlam
Wednesday August 2, 2006
This year's edition of SummerSlam is less than three weeks away. In this article, I will guide you through the history of this great event which has been the second most important day on the WWE calendar since 1988. The SummerSlam PPV has featured several firsts in the history of the WWE. Examples of this include being the first WWE PPV held outside of North America, the first WWE PPV held outdoors, the only PPV where the WWE offered a million dollar grand prize to a lucky viewer, the only WWE PPV where a wrestler making his pro wrestling debut was in the main event, the only wrestling PPV where the main event was not a wrestling match, and the only PPV where an elected government official refereed the main event. By the way, no one won the million dollar prize.
