Recap of The Great American Bash

Sunday July 23, 2006
Tag Team Titles: Champs Paul London & Brian Kendrick vs The Pitbulls (Kid Kash & Jamie Knoble) - Kendrick performed a sunset flip off the top rope on Kash. Kash tried to stop it but Paul London kicked him to complete the move which allowed Kendrick to make the pin. Winners: Paul London & Brian Kendrick

- In the back, The Great Khali was calling out The Undertaker. Daivari wanted him to stop but Khali was angered and lifted his manager into the air.

- Teddy Long is in the ring and announces that due to elevated enzymes in his liver, Lashley would be unable to compete tonight. Lashley came to the ring in his wrestling gear and wanted to fight. Teddy told him that when he is medically cleared he will get a shot at the U.S. title.

U.S. Title: Champ Finlay vs William Regal - This was a bizarre mix of tough action and comedy spots courtesy of the leprechaun. The end saw Little Bastard steal Regal’s boot. Finlay used it on Regal to get the win. The fans in the audience did not like this match and the boring chants were very noticeable. Winner: Finlay

- In the back, Chavo Guerrero was telling Rey that he was like family and his last name should be Guerrero. He told him that Eddie Guerrero wanted to regain the title before he passed away and that Rey was living Eddie’s dream. Chavo was going to make sure tonight that reams do come true.

Non-title Match: Cruiserweight Champ Gregory Helms vs - This match was originally billed as being a title match but for some reason the title was not on the line. The secret opponent turned out to be Matt Hardy. The end of the match featured several near falls. The match ended when Helms dropped Matt face first into the corner and then rolled up Matt with a fistful of tights to get the win. Winner: Gregory Helms

- In the back, Daivari was trying to convince The Great Khali not to call out The Undertaker since their match was next. The Undertaker appeared and yelled at Khali. The Big Show appeared and attacked The Undertaker. Khali then went after The Undertaker and security had to break it up. Teddy Long then announced that The Big Show would be in the Punjami prison match instead of Khali. Big Show complained because he didn’t even know what it is.

Punjabi Prison Match: The Undertaker vs The Great Kahli - The Punjambi prison is two bamboo cages, one around the ring and the other around most of the ringside area. The inner cage had spikes across the top and straps in the corner and four doors. They would be opened upon request by the referees for 60 seconds but each door could only be opened once. The first two doors closed with no one leaving. The Undertaker went through door 3 and The Big Show made it out the fourth door. The fourth door was still open when The Big Show threw The Undertaker back inside. When the minute expired, The Undertaker was trapped in the inner cage. The Undertaker was able to climb out of the inner cage. Daivari and Khali tried to enter the cage. The Undertaker hit The Big Show with a bodypress from the outside of the inner cage that broke them through the outer cage. The Undertaker rolled off the Big Show and got the win even though it appeared that The Big Show was out of the cage first. Winner: The Undertaker

Bra & Panties Match: Ashley vs Jillian vs Michelle McCool vs Kristal - Kristal was the first wrestler stripped to her bra and panties. Since Ashley was the one to strip her down, she was declared the winner. Winner: Ashley

Batista vs Ken Kennedy - Batista unleashed his six months of fury on Mr. Kennedy and bloodied him up pretty badly. When Batista choked him with his boot, he refused to break the hold and was disqualified. After the match, Batista hit three spine busters and a Batista bomb Winner: Mr. Kennedy by DQ

World Title: Rey Mysterio vs Booker T w/Queen Sharmell - When Sharmell tripped Rey, she was ordered to the back. After the ref bump, Rey hit the frogsplash. A few moments later, Booker brought a chair into the ring but Rey dropkicked it into the face of King Booker. Chavo Guerrero then ran to the ring and turned on his friend. He smashed Rey in the face with a chair which allowed King Booker to get the win. Winner and new champion: King Booker

Doesn’t it mean that Kennedy is #1 contender now for the World title? Teddy Long said on the Smackdown! before the Great American Bash that the Henry v. Batista match was supposed to be a #1 contender match.

(5) Tony says:

I believe that is how it should be but Teddy Long will say “Due to how the match ended the only way to determine the true number one contender is for a rematch.” So i believe that a week from this Friday there will be a rematch.

Tony – If I properly wrote down the way Mr. Kennedy ennunciates his name then I would have to do the same for Armando Alejandro Estrada. If I did that, I would wind up with carpal tunnel syndrome. :)

It’s a good thing that Umaga and Kennedy are on seperate brands because if they ever teamed together who would do the introductions for the team.
