The History of The Great American Bash

Wednesday July 19, 2006
This Sunday night, The Great American Bash returns to PPV. This is the only WWE PPV that was started by another company. The first event took place in 1985 and was promoted by Jim Crockett’s NWA territory. For a few years, instead of being one event, it was a nationwide tour of events. After he sold the company to WCW, it became an almost annual event. After the sale of WCW to WWE in 2001, the event was brought back to life in 2004.

The Bash is perhaps the most perplexing event in regards to quality. In its history, the event has been recognized as one of the greatest events in WCW history and also one of the worst events in wrestling history. Memories of the Bash include highlights like The Wargames match and such lowlights as the infamous “We Want Flair” fiasco.
