Hall of Fame Induction Recap

Sunday April 2, 2006
Prior to the show being telecast on USA, The Blackjacks, Verne Gagne, William Perry, Sherri Martel, & Tony Atlas were inducted into the Hall of Fame. Their induction speeches were all shown on WWE.com. The most notable thing to happen during this part of the ceremony was the fans reaction to John Cena. The fans were booing him mercilessly. Jerry Lawler was the mc for this event and appeared on both the Internet feed and USA telecast. The show lasted on line for approximately 1 ½ hours. While the Internet feed was live, the USA portion of the show was shown on a tape delpay and was edited for time.

The USA telecast starts with Hulk Hogan presenting “Mean” Gene Okerlund. Both men’s speeches were entertaining but nothing notable happened.

The Eddie Guerrero segment was next and it was very emotional. His friends Chris Benoit and Rey Mysterio along with his cousin Chavo Guerrero all were on stage to present Eddie’s award. Chavo talks about being at last year’s ceremony with Eddie and not believing that he was inducting him in this year because he was gone. He told a story of how Eddie taught him that it was alright for a man to cry. Chris Benoit spoke next. He spoke about how they were always on the road together. Rey was last and started by saying that they all knew that Eddie would eventually be in the Hall of Fame but can not believe that it happened so soon.Rey then invited Vickie Guerrero and her two daughters to the stage for her to give the acceptance speech.

Steve Austin makes his presentation speech for Bret Hart. The fans started an Austin-Hogan chant. When Bret came out the fans started a Thank You Bret chant. He thanked the WWE for all they gave him and thanked Vince McMahon. He told a funny story about his late brother Owen which allowed the fans to start an Owen chant. He said that his favorite match was against The British Bulldog in England and that he is most proud of never injuring another wrestler in his entire career.
